Seasons: All Stars
Memorable Quote: "It's definitely not home without the people that belong here." -Amber
I can at least give the producers some credit for trying to mix things up here, but it seems just a little too obvious when they're in a situation that a fan favorite (Lex or Kathy) might not make the jury because of a soon to be pagonging. On top of that, this was one of the strangest results for a tribal swap ever. It is also the reason that they are no longer done randomly because all that happened was the tribes were swapped with the exception of Amber. She was pretty much screwed, yet somehow got out of the horrible situation, which is another story/argument in itself. Basically this twist is so low because all they had to do was not dissolve Saboga like I said in my last update, and the post merge would have been hectic enough. The late merge here, did jack, and was utterly pointless. It's the only failed swap in the history of the show (unless you count Guatemala for helping Steph or Marquesas for being completely unfair to Maramu, but I don't), and deserves being this low.
44. HII (new rules)
Seasons: Fiji, China, Micronesia
Memorable Quote: "It's a fucking stick!" -Eliza
Not really sure on the reaction to this one, but it doesn't matter. The HII can't make it any higher despite all the entertainment it's given us. Yeah, all these great moments have happened because of it including: Yau Man actually finding it and planting a fake one, Lisi looking like an absolute dumbass when the Four Horsemen find it by "waking up early", Ed and Alex's facial reactions when Ed gets blindsided, the whole scene in China where Frosti ran into Todd and Amanda finding it, James getting booted with two idols, Jason and the stick, Ozzy's blindside complete with Eliza's reaction, and Jason's blindside. Everytime one of those events happened, I laughed my ass off and completely enjoyed it. The thing is, notice how I didn't include Yau Man and Amanda each playing it and saving themselves. The actual concept on one person getting screwed over because of this is complete bull to me. Yeah, I'm not an Amanda fan and her finding/playing the idol was one of my least favorite episodes ever (from a predictible standpoint, the fact that I didn't give two shits about Alexis, and the way she left), but I actually was and am still a Yau fan. Even though I was rooting for Yau, he should have left in sixth place. Same thing goes for Amanda. I hate the concept of how there's no revote, I hate the fact that only one person gets a chance to look for it at a time (or gets a clue at a time if it's at a camp), and I hate the fact that the editors had to completely ignore two characters because they were screwed over by twist.
Sure, it has given us alot of hilarious footage, but it's also been shoved down our throats over and over again, and frankly, I'm starting to get tired of it. The fact that it was being rehidden after someone was voted out while holding it in Micronesia, didn't make it any better for me. Don't get me wrong, I still liked Micronesia over all because of the characters/strategy/and funny moments, but we were shown that even without the HII, it would have been a great season. If Ozzy was blindsided without holding it, we all would have enjoyed it just as much. Now I agree in Fiji, without the four horsemen blindside, there would be almost nothing redeemable about the season, but you get what I mean.
43. Bobby Jon and Steph Return
Seasons: Guatemala
Memorable Quote: "How am I supposed to win with Stephenie on my tribe?" -Jamie
Finally, here's BJ and Steph. I'm quoting someone from this thread (I think UKK?) that Guatemala wouldn't have been the same without these two
coming back, and it's true. It wouldn't have been anywhere near the same season without Bobby Jon and Jamie's relationship, and the Steph show of
her turning into a raging bitch. The thing is, I actually liked it. Besides the three girls leaving at the start, I thought Guatemala was edited much better
than Palau and was a huge step up with not hiding someone's true personality. Oh, and I'm also one of the few who didn't fall in love with Steph in
Palau, but I was happy to see BJ back.
The main problem here though is how does two people on a tribe that completely sucked, deserve a second chance? Two words, they don't. Steph was a huge
reason that Ulong sucked, yet somehow, she gets so much credit for fighting? As James would say, "Come on". No really, that's crazy. And to top
it off, she gets the majority of the early screen time meaning we don't even get a chance to meet some of the early boots. That doesn't make too much
sense, but as far as entertainment factors, those two coming back really made an impact entertainment wise which means they also get the number 43 spot.
(It's really hard to write about this because I'm really in the middle on it, I don't hate it, but I don't really like it if you understand
what I'm saying.)
