Kimbob, that would be a recipe for mosquito disaster here. We don't EVER do sitting water down here. The mosquitos are the size of helicopters already.
Plus Paul James (Gardening by the Yard guy)says that watering plants from the saucers is something lots of people do but is never a good idea cause it sets you
up for root rot.

Ah, see we outlawed pesky bugs here some years ago.
I don't know, I've been keeping my tomatoes in water baths for years and they always produce well? MAYBE I'M A TOMATO FAILURE AND I NEVER EVEN KNEW IT!!!! Kimbob the Worried |

mr peebles is fun. he drives my neighbor carla crazy, so he's worth living. "dmb, i think you have a ground hog living under your shed!!!"
"i DO?". a quick one, that carla. she thought it was a beaver at first. yeah, a beaver.
i feed him fruit in the winter. he loves it. |

three slices of tomato on WHITE bread spread with mayonnaise is a free ticket to heaven.Mmmmmmm..tomatosandwich..mmmmm throw some romaine on there with a little parmesan & it really rawks. I have four plants in two containers & they're going great. If I don't give them a LOT of water, they wilt. Full sun. 20 little green balls so far. They're doing as well as when I had one plant each in a five gallon container. I'm nixing the miracle-gro this year. It produces lots of green parts, but not many great tomatoes. Mine still need another month to ripen. |

I have nine different varieties this year - Early Girl( two have ripened), plum(just turning red now), Lemon Boy(ate my first last week), Sweet 100(ready in a
few days), grape(I've had over a dozen so far - will end up with at least 1000 of them), Husky Cherry Red(just turning red), Ruby's Green(never had
them before - how will I know when they're ripe???), Banana Legs(look like miniature yellow long peppers) and Bonnie Select( appears it'll be a
disappointing yield this year for them again). I also have dill and basil growing. There's nothing better than a slice of toasted Italian bread coated with
olive oil with fresh tomato and basil on top and just a bit of salt and pepper.
We give most of our tomatoes away to friends and neighbors who don't grow their own. |

I have two different cherry tomatoes in containers. Just finally getting the green balls. They plants are growing like mad and I think I'll have a decent
amount. First time I've tried tomatoes. I also have basil, dill, tarragon, rosemary and thyme. The basil is so freaking good.

I have three tomato plants. They have had lots of blossoms, but so far, no tomatoes have appeared. The neighbor has a lot. She may have less before too much
longer.

Tomatoes are originally from Mexico? And it was introduced to Europe in 16th century.
