I'm the opposite, I like seeing the guy who's supposed to basically be second fiddle actually surprising everyone and winning one or two. Plus, Lochte's from the area, so I have to cheer for him. We don't get a lot of Olympic athletes from around here, I think there are a grand total of three this year. They've been talking about the pole vaulter chick on the local news almost every day for the past month, lol. |

Wambach's broken leg mars U.S. win over Brazil Sucks for her. I can't imagine the Women's soccer team winning gold without her. |

I'm getting excited, can't wait. The cable company is having it free in "On Demand" plus live streaming video on their web site, besides all
the online video and tv channels from NBC, so this time we shouldn't miss much. If two or more things are on tv at the same time, you can watch it in
"On Demand" or online later.
What is your least favorite? I don't like the little girls twirling the ribbons, its usually the last few days of gymnastics, and I don't like synchronized swimming, also usually the last couple of days. They have those and they don't have golf and they don't have ballroom dancing, To me the ribbon twirling is not as good as twirling a cat toy, one of those on the fishing pole that gets a cat jumping around, so I would prefer that to the ribbon twirling 8 yr old girls. Didn't Thorpe quit swimming because he tested positive for something at some meet? Am I the only one on sucks who likes the athlete's background stories? I love that, and I hope they do it because it makes the events so much more interesting when you know more about them, how they got there, etc. And Phelps, if he wins 8 Gold would that be the most ever won by an athlete in an Olympics? I think Spitz' 7 Gold is right now. I'll go look it up.

I don't like female gymnastics. It makes me uncomfortable to see those tiny newts with tight muscles doing impossible things. Now, that is the nature of
some sports, but in gymnastics it just looks unnatural and painful.
Wrestling in the lower weight classes, too- you know those guys starve themselves. Not entertaining. BTW I was at the Olympics in 2004 for a couple of the track sessions. Good seats, too. Front row one night. But after the amazing thrill of the venue and lights and just being there wore off (after about an hour!), I would look at the runners and think "Wow, these sure are EMACIATED people!" |

The U.S Women's Gymnastics team was announced today:
NEW WAVERLY, Texas (AP)-Now it's official: Chellsie Memmel, Alicia Sacramone and Samantha Peszek are going to the Beijing Olympics. And they're bringing Bridget Sloan with them. Considered all but locks after strong showings at last month's nationals and Olympic trials, Memmel, Peszek and Sacramone looked even better Saturday night to earn spots on the U.S. women's gymnastics team. Sloan, the alternate on last year's world championship team, upgraded herself with an impressive performance at the two-day selection camp. The four join Shawn Johnson and Nastia Liukin, who secured spots with their 1-2 finish at trials, on the last U.S. team to be finalized. Now it's on to Beijing, where the Americans will be favorites to add Olympic gold to the one they won at last year's world championships. "We don't even want to be Olympians. We want to be Olympic champions," Peszek said, her nails painted gold.Their biggest competition will come from the home team, China. World champs in 2006 and runners-up last year, the Chinese have made no secret that they desperately want to win gold at home. Romania, Russia and Australia also are expected to contend for a medal. more on the article here : LINKY

I hate to say it, but if you've got 13 year old girls trash talking other 13 year old girls, nothing good will come of this.
Has the asshole Russian polevaulter retired yet? No Thorpe for the Aussies at all? Even in the relays? |

I expect more shitty NBC coverage. Girl sports all the time, endless drippy interviews with 11 year old gymnasts, and crap.
Probably no boxing, soccer, tennis, baseball or surfing, just gymnastics 24x7. feh I'm rooting for Ireland |

Probably no boxing, soccer, tennis, baseball or surfing, just gymnastics 24x7.Boxing is sorely absent from Olympics coverage. Soccer, tennis, and baseball are all sports that, as above, shouldn't be in the Olympics. Surfing? No way. No way they have surfing now. Do they? After the halfpipe entries in the winter games, I almost believed this. |

So, will there be coverage of the ballroom dancing competitions?

I cannot wait for this! Go Team Canada!
I think it'll be a tight race between the US and China for most gold medals though.

I like the swimming and water polo (which is a virtually ignored sport, unless there is nothing else on). I used to take water polo lessons and I learned to do
laps at the same time. I learned how to dive off the low boards and how to come up for air after 20 seconds or so. I improved in my time as well as my free
style and back stroke. and waterpolo is a very difficult sport to play. Try running around in water for 10 minutes, you'll be pooped out of your mind.

I like watching water polo too, it's another one of those sports that's usually on at 2am on one of the off networks.
