I'm on my second. I also have a scooba and a dirt dog.
They do not do a good enough job for those of you who are clean freaks. They're perfect for people who hate to vaccum and therefore don't very often. When run daily they do a pretty good job of keeping the floors clean. I turn mine on when I leave for work in the morning and put it on the charger when I get back from work. It's always filled with dog hair and dirt and fuzz. My house is cleaner and all I have to do is put the cords out of the way push a button and clean it out when I get home. The dirt dog is cheap, it basically acts like a broom, it has no suction capability like a vaccum does so it just picks up the dirt. I've been known to run it in the garage. If you have long hair and carpet you'll have to clean the brushes out daily as it'll get wrapped around the brushes, if you ignore that you'll burn out the turner thingy. The scooba is a pain in the ass. It's easier to do a swiffer with wet pads. It has to be filled with water and special solution and it won't do the entire floor because it'll run out of water or the dirty tank will be full. As for it cleaning. It goes in one direction then it runs into a wall or whatever and goes another direction, it's pretty random and when left in a bedroom sized room it'll do a good job on one charging cycle. It gets stuck on low furniture (I pull my dining room chairs out from the table so it doesn't get stuck between them and the table), cords, fringy rugs, the new ones don't get stuck as much as the old model. Do not buy an older model or a refurbished model. You want the new technology because the battery and bin size will be better ect. . As for refurbished models they get fixed for the thing they were sent in for even if that wasn't the only thing wrong with them so you're likely to get a crappy one and your warentee is cut in thirds. They come with a 12 month warentee and if you break yours (I've broken several) in the 12 months you call and they mail you a new one. We just got a new one because our old one wasn't charging well, it was 11 months into the warentee. |

Roomba's don't go in concentric circles. It's a random pattern.
If you want one, watch for Merkyl's Woot-Off alerts. They're always wooting Roombas. |

I once gave Weems' mom a Roomba, she didn't walk right for weeks.

You are a loser of a poster.
Your mother's basement is probably damp and musty. |

My basement (aka "the grotto") is ass-spankingly clean. It has a dehumidifier, a cozy bathroom and Pierre Deux fabric. I cleaned in preparation for guests...yesterday. [There are, however, a few crickets cause my house is OLD.] |

A chick at work traded me her filthy Roomba Discovery with a dead battery for a brand new RoboMaid (in box) I had. I got the new battery insert yesterday (rebuild the battery)..... ....it's in my bedroom cleaning like a monster right now. :c ) |

I have one Weems!
But I wouldn't recommend it. If it's a large area, it will likely get filled up before it even does half of it. There just isn't much room for it to store cat hair and such. |

Unlike Mama's cavernous crotch, which has been stretched out by my Big Black Daddy to a size capable of holding several whole cats, a couple badgers and
the entire cast of "Weeds". I've got room for a fucking IMAX theater in here.

I missed this thread before.
Hope you're enjoying your Roomba, Weems. To me, it's one of the greatest inventions of mankind. Woot. $99 refurb scheduler with other stuff. Been trusty for 6 months. I use it about 3 times a week and clean the brushes once a week. No problem yet and it docks itself when it's done. I have a gigantic greatroom without too much furniture and hardwood floors. I just let it go. Sometimes I'll sweep the baseboards and sweep the dust into the middle of the room. When I come home, it's gone. I want another just for fun - you can do all sorts of mods. Next wootoff it's mine. http://www.techeblog.com/index.php/tech-gadget/feature-top-5-roomba-hacks |

I actually looked at all the mods people do....fun stuff.
It cleaned under the bed pretty well....lots of dust bunnies. Oh....and the battery pack (that you rebuild using the old case with) was only like $24. (They're like $70 for a ROomba brand battery new.) |

Well!
That certainly wasn't very pertinent to the conversation at hand. |

So....does anyone use the "virtual walls"?
Does the home base need to be near it when you start it to get it to return? Does it really eat power chords? I set it up real quick this morning in the didning room/living room. Pulled out all the chairs, put stuff on the couch, got chords and things out of the way.....I noticed it didn't pick up a medium-sized dead moth. do they pick up sand/soil or mostly just cat fur and mothballs? |

Dr Weems |

- It gets tangled in power chords
- It ate my boxer shorts - It only picks up fur and dust bunnies....not pebbles or bits of paper - It scuffed up the floor whence stuck under a chair. - The dust bin is incredibly small. - Cleaning brushes takes time I'm not convinced it's much better than the Robomaid....if at all. |
