And Sableye PWNS. One of the "best looking" pkmn out there. Tried to train one. Unfortunately, it was pretty shitty.
And lol @ your Camerupt description! EXPLODIN' CAMEL FTW!

50. Slaking (Normal) Slaking, according to the competitive battlers, has some of the best stats for any of the non-legendary Pokemon. High attack, relatively high speed high defenses and HP...it all adds up to Slaking being an extremely formidible foe. Of course, to balance his power out, Salking also has the ability, Truant. This prevents Slaking from attacking every turn, thus forcing him to attack only once every other turn. This alone makes Slaking a lot worse than he could've been. He's just not up to snuff with the higher-ranked Pokemon.
49. Grumpig (Psychic) I can understand most things, but why on Earth would the designers decide to make a Psychic Pokemon that's also a pig? I just don't get that. Psychic Pokemon aren't supposed to make that much sense, but most of them are humanoid in one way or another. A pig is just extremely random. Especially since Swinub and Piloswine exist and make much more sense as Ground-types. But Grumpig is pretty useful and fun, so it's enough for a top fifty appearance. 48. Nuzleaf (Grass/Dark) Honestly, it has been a very long time since a really good Grass-type was created. Grass already has a massive amount of weaknesses and by adding Dark to the mix, that adds Fighting and another Bug weakness to the list. But Nuzleaf will always hold a special place in my heart for A. vastly improving on the shit that was Seedot, and B. being on my ultimate Ruby team that I wound up leveling all the way to 100. But if it wasn't for that, Nuzleaf probably wouldn't be anywhere near my top of the list. He's still better than Lombre though.
47. Ludicolo (Grass/Water) Speaking of Lombre, here's the final form in his evolutionary chain, Ludicolo. Honestly, I never saw the big deal with Ludicolo. I mean, people say it's great for competitive battling, but it's nothing special in my mind. It's just a massive, pinata-looking Pokemon that I assume is supposed to be a stereotype of Mexicans (not the diabolical kind) in some way. Pretty much all of Ludicolo's appeal comes from its comedic appearance and the fact that the weird disco afro guy from Collosseum had a whole team of them.
46. Beautifly (Bug/Flying) Okay, I'll admit that Beautifly is just a ripoff of Margarine (get it, because it's Butter free?) but that doesn't hurt it as much as it would other Pokemon. Sure, Beautifly is weak and not really any help in combat, but it's still beautiful as the name implies. It's definitely a worthy improvement over just how pathetic and sad the Wurmple to Silcoon evolution was. I just like butterflies, and that's enough to get Beautifly this high. |

I'm so relieved that I'm not the only one that thinks Lombre/Ludicolo are Mexican sterotypes. Still, Lotad line >>>> Seedot line. Shiftry
is just plain scary.

It's basically a Grass pokemon without a weakness to Fire or Ice (because with Swampert around, you shouldn't be using it as a Water type). |

45. Shiftry (Grass/Dark) And now, at number 45, we have the first appearance of one of my dream team from Ruby. They were the first Pokemon I ever raised (legitimately) to level 100, just by plowing through the elite 4 over and over and over. Shiftry is random as hell and ugly as sin, but he always did his part is blasting through the Ghost trainer of the elite 4. Sure, his typing sucks, but he was on my team regardless, and even if he's the worst of six (two more are coming in this update) he was still one of them, and gets into the top 45.
44. Pelipper (Water/Flying) And here's the second of my six-Pokemon dream team. You may notice that my dream team consists mainly of Pokemon caught within the first few minutes of the game, and this is true. In Ruby, I just found whatever I could and made a team of it, being careful not to overlap any types. Pelipper fit the role of both my Water-type AND my Flying-type, and I used him and Ice Beam against the Dragon elite 4 trainer. Still, Pelipper was fat and if he wasn't in my team, he'd be very low on the list, so 44 is as high as I shall place him.
43. Jirachi (Steel/Psychic) Prior to Jirachi, the secret, special legendary was always something pretty cool and unobtainable. That's kinda what hurts Jirachi. I mean, Mew and Celebi weren't exactly BADASS, but they weren't pussy little wish-granting freak either. And to make matters worse, Jirachi is the most easily obtainable "special" legendary ever. I can go hook up my Wii, pop my Collosseum promo disc in, hook my game up to the Wii, and BAM, I've got Jirachi. Still, it's a legendary and it's actually useful. It's just kinda disappointing.
42. Wailord (Water) Yeah, pretty much the main reason this thing is as high as it is is because of the whole "Hot Wailord on Skitty action" fad, which still strikes me as hilarious, how the absolute biggest Pokemon in the entire game can mate with one of the smallest. It boggles the mind. Another reason for the high placement is the sheer fact that Wailord IS the biggest Pokemon of all time, which is impressive in and of itself. Mainly though, I just think a real whale Pokemon is cool. Simple as that.
41. Dustox (Bug/Poison) Dustox is the third of my dream team, and only got to be that way mainly because Beautifly was Bug/Flying and I already had a Flying-type in Pelipper. It also helped that Beautifly is really bad in comparison to Dustox. All she gets are Grass and Flying moves while Dustox learns Toxic AND Psychic attacks. Dustox was great for clearing out the Dark elite 4 guy, even though he typically wouldn't survive the whole way. He was definitely the hardest to get to level 100. |

Still keeping up with the list and enjoying it! I always used Pelipper too (and other Pokemon found at the start of the game, like Dustox)...

40. Regice (Ice) Definitely the best of the three Regis, Regice is the Ice-type, which instantly makes him cooler than the other two members of the legendary trio, what with Ice being such an awesome typing and all. Regice is the member of the trio with high Special Defense, which is good against Fire-types, but Ice is also weak to Rock and Fighting, which require physical defense. Now that I think of it, all the Regis are weak to Fighting-types. Anyway, Regice looks the sleekest and most well-crafted of the three, so I just like it most, even if it WAS defeated by Ash's freaking Pikachu.
39. Taillow (Flying/Normal) I like Taillow's appearance, honestly. It's cute, unlike most of the Flying-type Pokemon in the game. Taillow is smooth and well-designed and for a starter Flying/Normal-type, he can actually be pretty useful in RSE, unlike, say, Pidgey, Spearow, or Hoothoot. It's also relatively uncommon, which means you have to work harder to come into possession of a Taillow early in the game, as compared to the three birds mentioned above.
38. Wingull (Water/Flying) Wingull is another early-game first-form Flying-type with the distinct uniqueness of being a Water-type as opposed to a Normal-type. Wingull, like Taillow, is relatively uncommon, but it make for an extremely early in the game Water-type, thus avoiding all fishing entirely. Wingull can be quite annoying though, when you're trying to surf across one of RSE's many water areas and can find nothing but it and Tentacool. Still, Wingull is cute and evolves into one of my dream team. It has to make it high on my list.
37. Salamence (Dragon/Flying) While I understand that Salamence is supposed to be one of the best overall competitive battlers in the game, I've never really cared for it. I mean, much like Dragonite, the previous sole Dragon/Flying-type in the game, Salamence just doesn't feel right. For one, I don't like a quadruped Flying-type. And for another, it doesn't fit with the entire rest of its line. It goes from BaGON to ShelGON to Salamence. And it looks nothing like the first two. It just doesn't make a lick of sense. Plus, it's one of the Pokemon you have to wait the longest to obtain due to its evolution only coming at level 50. In fact, that competitive battling is the only reason it makes it this high on my list to begin with. 36. Groundon (Ground) Now, I admit Groundon is a cool legendary Pokemon and I like the way the legendaries were divided into land and sea. But Groudon is lower than Kyogre for the reasoning that Kyogre owns Groundon in battle no matter how you slice it. Ground versus water, there's no contest. And land in a predominantly sea-based world just isn't all that great. It's much further down in comparison to Kyogre, and that's why Groundon winds up this low on my list. (Plus the fact that Ground has far more weaknesses than Water does for some reason.) |
