Drew - For the life of me, I could not remember who the last person was until I saw it was him. Another meh performance.
In my opinion, the two women blew the men out of the water tonight.

Mitch - NO
Gary -I usually love growly rock voices but I didn't understand a word he said. Katelyn - I expected to hate this but it was actually good. Oliver - Ewww go home. Sebastian - If a pig has to stay I'd rather it be him. Earl - Katherine - Horrible Drew - Who? |

I've listened to Katelyn's performance about 7 or 8 times already.

Listen to Katelyn if you get the chance. The parts that come before the chorus are incredible. She just hits everything perfectly. The chorus doesn't hold up to the beginning, but that's because the beginning is so freaking good. X Couldn't have said it better. She's slowly
becoming the Brooke White of this season in terms of dialogue with the judges.

My thoughts, from best to worst: Oliver- VERY interesting song choice. He looked horrible, but he definitely chose a song that helped his voice to shine, especially in the opening. Agree with Jake-the blues and soul in the performance were obvious. It must have been a good performance to get me to like that song. Katelyn- I like Katelyn. A lot. I didn't think the performance was as good as it might have
been. With just a few different choices (going up a note instead of down) that could have been great. It
wasn't. Still, I enjoyed it immensely, more and more as I listen to it. Here's hoping that she's still around. I wonder if that's possible, however, and that frightens me.
Katherine- This was a shocker for me. It was, for me, her best performance yet. It still doesn't compare to the original and it was nowhere as good as the best of the other contestants, but I was impressed. Nonetheless, if she's still here over Katelyn and Marie-Pierre, I'll be sad. Mitch- I'm a big fan of his voice, but tonight, he just wasn't as good as he has been in the past. He didn't seem as bubbly as he has in previous weeks and the instrumentation (along with the song choice) didn't showcase his voice in the tones in which it's best. I hope he's around next week. Sebastian- I like the guy's voice, I just wish he could phrase and sing a few notes in a row without doing the three -note spurts that he keeps doing. He was a good showman as usual, but to choose a song that amazing, you have to bring it all (no pun intended). He didn't do it for me. Also- I kept thinking of Casey LeBlanc's performance throughout the song. Earl- His voice fit well with the song, but the performance was painful for me to watch. I couldn't stand the fact that he strutted like a chicken across the stage throughout the entire song, kept waving his hand and pointing his finger, and just looked a fool. He's a contestant very much in the line of Jason Castro-a man of questionable brain matter who acts silly, turns in average to slightly above average performances, and somehow gets by. Gary- He looked possessed tonight and I thought the screaming was a little much. It was like a death metal guy tried to tone himself down. When he's not growling, I like the voice. Unfortunately, that happened only a few times throughout the song. Drew- Like the judges, I love his voice, but he just doesn't reach the top that he's capable of. He mangled the song tonight. Though I don't want him over some of the others, if he's around, I hope he can get back to the way he was in Toronto. I loved his "She Will Be Loved." Overall:
Tonight was full of interesting song choices-some of the songs of the best ever written (some, not so much). It made me like a few of the contestants more than ever before, such as Katelyn and even Katherine, and turned me against some (Earl). The only one who is certain to advance to next week is Oliver. I'll wager a guess for the other four, but I really just don't know. My guess for the top 5: Oliver, Sebastian, Mitch, Katherine, Earl.
My hope for the top 5: Mitch, Katelyn, Oliver, Sebastian, and Earl, the last one solely because he doesn't growl (Gary), isn't boring (Drew), and has actually had more than one performance that I thought was better than "bad" (Katherine). Unlike last night, however, I won't be distraught if any of these make the top 10. Katherine and Drew might be better replaced by others, but they probably won't be as painful as overconfident Adam Castelli, obnoxious Omar Lunan, or zzzzMartin Kerr would be should they make the top 10. Forget the top 10. Now I'm putting for a Theo-Amberly-Mitch-Sebastian-Katelyn-Oliver top 6. Is that too much to ask?

God I wish Newfie boy had been in this group.
This is tough. Who I want to stay: Katelyn Drew Sebastian Who needs to stay, just because: Earl Who will stay even though I could care less and I don't get him: Oliver Who won't stay even though I'd like to see his growth over time: Mitch Who can go, because even though she is beautiful and talented she's never put any originality or artistry into her performances: Katharine Sorry dude: Gary |

Wow, yeah...best season ever? Right. I'll give it another week but I think I'm outta here for the season.

Mitch - He is in the danger zone. Obscure song choice and performs first. He was a lot better last week. Tonight, he sounded whiny and nasal (cue someone saying "doesn't he sound like that every night?"). Gary - I like Gary but still undecided if he really should be in the Top 10. Based on tonight's performance, however, I would say "no". I like growling but I can only take it for so long. Didn't care about the song choice and the death metal arrangement. BC will probably not have a representative in the top ten this season for the first time and I'll be okay with that. Katelyn - She killed the song tonight in a good way (as always). Her best performance on the show by far. Manitoba is dead.to.me. if they don't put her in the top ten. Oliver - The song was perfect for him. Good soulful vocals. Lots of grit. However, I think his lesser-talented brother is slowly overshadowing him. Sebastian - I agree with Sass that this guy is probably the most clever contestant on CI. He doesn't have the best voice but knows how to work the stage. The harmonica bit added a nice touch. Earl - Once you've seen an Earl performance, you've seen 'em all. He's got nothing else to offer but awkward dancing and mediocre "karaoke-like" singing. Please send him home. Katherine - Her voice is so generic and bland and nondescript. The female equivalent of Brian Melo. She just doesn't stand out vocally. Probably her best performance but damn, Quebec should back the other and better French girl instead. Drew - Why did he get the pimp spot? Fulfill your fodder status already! Not bad but not the best of the night. Ranking: -GOOD- 1. Sebastian 2. Katelyn 3. Oliver -OKAY- 4. Mitch -WHATEVER- 5. Katherine 6. Drew 7. Gary -BAD- 7. Earl |

It was Mitch who sang the Jayhawks actually. Which makes me happy, cause even if he leaves now (which I think he will) at least he sang one indie song that
you wouldn't hear on Idol if it wasn't for him.

I am not sure I like this whole splitting of people over two nights and voting confined to those nights. I don't think this was an equitable split this week and it will result in some people going home who shouldn't, and some people staying who shouldn't (Mark Day I'm looking at you.) |

Yeah, at this point an Earl boot wouldn't surprise me. I'm not expecting it necessarily, but he's put in some kind of weird performances the past
two weeks that might have turned people off (I know they turned me off, anyway). More shocking would be someone like Oliver (who is far more pimped than
Earl).

Finally the Earl and Mitch hate is growing. I really have disliked both from the onset of the semis, especially Mitch who is grossly overrated.
I do not get Earl. I really don't. I don't know what it is that he does, fumbling around like someone partially high and drunk. It seems like he is singing and looking for his car keys to get home. I always sit there watching it like wtf is this? Maybe if I was high I would understand. And I loved him in his audition, I really thought he'd be my top fav but once I saw his Top 24 peformance, I jumped off that boat. Earl also looks like his pubes smell like pee pee and he has a hairy bush. Just something to think about. I voted for Katelyn (I forgot she even existed, I was like wtf, it was good) 25 votes Sebastian (He's cute and I prefer him than Oliver) 10 votes Drew (I wasn't impressed that much but I promised Seaguy I'd vote for him) 25 votes |

I'm happy that I'm actually enjoying this season and a lot of the performances. I was really into season 4, but lost interest part way through (I was
rooting for Eva, but still). Last season sucked. This one is really good.

I haven't gotten the Earl and Mitch love since the beginning.

Random musings from the week:
I've also hated Earl and Mitch from the beginning. Earl's personality is the only good thing among the two of them. lol @ Amberly's fall from grace so early. I don't even care if she leaves now since it would be so gosh darn hilarious. <3 Mark Day is always amazing. <3 I hope Oliver gets the boot and the hotter, more personable Pig moves on. And Ben has a hissy fit on stage like he did with Gregorilla. Both of the Frenchies have actually grown on me. Katherine looks like one of the aliens from Mars Attacks, with a straw wig.
<3 Mookie, Gary, and Katelyn too, though the novelty is wearing off for Mookie. All the others I didn't mention can rot in hell. |
