Zzzzz ok even fighting about SYTYCD is fucking boring. That said... I want to have Courtney for breakfast and bash Nigel's skull in. That's all for
now... I am far too lazy to argue about sarcasm... I have laundry to do and I won't even do that right now

For Hanson and littltimmy - of course the judges have an influence, but everything has an influence. It's hard to quantify. Nigel pimping Will , does
that hurt him or help him? Does Jessica get sympathy votes? If Jessica makes it to the final 3 girls is it backlash to the judges, does she get lucky with
choreo or could her dancing actually be the reason?
Shane saying Danny came across as arrogant to him came from somewhere so it's very possible some viewers would have come up with that on their own if Shane had never said anything. Hell, I think someone was saying this season that Kelli Baker had a sense of entitlement that was completely invisible to me. There's always someone hating on someone and the judges just throw out stuff *some* people are probably thinking all on their own. Not saying there aren't fanatics who pick their horse and decide they are the best based on hawtness (or fierceness!) and vote for them *almost* regardless of what they do on stage. It's just you get into iffy territory when you have your opinion but accuse others of just being mindless tards. Though, I've done it myself, especially with Neil last year, where I didn't really think he was as good as his critiques were until the F4 where I didn't mind him so much. But I was pretty convinced based on nothing more than the screams he got on the show that he had a legion of tweeners who would vote him the win. |

For me though, the most clever usage of judge manipulation was when Mary said she wanted Cedric to stay. I think she knew what she was doing (and she certainly
couldn't have thought that his cuban rumba was good).

Which reminds me....couldn't one consider Gev's solo just as trick-filled as Marquis's solo? Or what's the criteria for a solo to be considered a dance solo versus a trick-filled one, regardless of how the dancer's own style is classified??Just speculating/playing devil's advocate, but I think that Gev's wasn't just a tricked out solo to the judges because the dance moves were mostly properly timed to the music (he demonstrated strong musicality). It shows careful planning on his part. It's sort of like how certain dancers in the opening (when they announce the dancers) time their movements to the So-You-Think-You-Can-Dance lyric. I've noticed that Josh, Mark, Gev and Twitch do this sometimes. Marquis' solo - what I remember of it - didn't let the tricks lend itself to music as easily (though I don't agree with the judges that it was just tricks so I could just as easily argue otherwise). He was simply just doing everything and it didn't demonstrate the the same level of planning as Gev's. Plus, Marquis' style of dancing may have made the difference - he was expected to do something more.

Hmmmm...I see what you are saying loveski. I actually watched Gev's solo 3 or 4 times it was so good and just went to watch it again after what you said.
Definitely worked the musicality into his dancing. Most solo's are boring to me, but this one was by far the most memorable because I wanted it to keep
going. Really really solid work IMO. Will that get him very far in this comp? I don't think so, but it was great to watch him do his thing.

Well he definitely wouldn't be much fun at all for us hetero females, so have at him Proof. I'll just keep hoping there are some hot, hetero Russian
ballroom guys next season. Like Dmitri. And don't effing tell me Dmitri is gay even if he is because I will cut you.

Whether or not one thinks the bed routine is dance or not, at least it was memorable cause we're still talking about it, unlike let's say Matt and
Kourtney's mambo, which was certainly dance.
I thought the bed routine was dance, but the concept was cliche and unoriginal. Hopefully Mia will get a couple weeks off to come up with some more interesting concepts on par with Joshua and Katee's dance and last week's group routine. The thing with Mia is when her concepts work, they're brilliant, but she's prone to falling into self parody and self indulgence like the bed dance or last year's dead dad routine. Perhaps she should be restricted to one flower only as with Travis and Heidi's parkbench dance. Thayne reminds me of those outguying guys at the bar who flirt with everybody and sleep with everybody. |

What is funny is this group of people (mostly at other boards) saying they will not vote for people who are even slightly pimped. That is being controlled by
the judges as much as those who vote for Will because the judges SAY he is good. I vote for who I like.. though my faves are probably the least
"pimped." Nigel really had a hissy about going after Mark this week. He even had to "respectfully" call Mary's judgment into question
to do it.
AK, you say that the Veinnese Waltz was no VW... and I agree 100%. I also thought the Samba was not a real Samba. The interesting thing is that NONE of the moves of these were called into question, and yet the Foxtrot WAS. Interesting, there, how with one dance the technique and following rules was uber-important, while two others were apparently quite open to interpretation. |

Well with SYTYCD turning into AI... I can only hope that Nigel has a coronary when Will and Joshua are shockingly booted and Gev wins it all. Fuck... I can
hope and pray right? I want to see Nigel's heart attack live on tv... in HD mind you.

Will isn't even a frontrunner. He's like Chris Richardson from AI, tons of praise, but no real result to warrant it. I'd be shocked if one of Josh/Twitch doesn't win, but then it'd be either Mark/Chelsie, so <333 (maybe Katee? Wishful thinking. |

Vegas still has a female SLIGHTLY favored to win. I would love to see Chels win. I finally want to see a ballroom dancer win. They are so underappreciated on
this show. They overpraise contemporary dancers when all they do is jump and do splits in the air. They are truly a dime in a dozen.

I'm not a big Mia fan, and I sure as hell don't consider her the "genius" a lot of other people do, but I find her routines a lot more
interesting that the crapola Tabitha and Napoleon are trotting out. I also wasn't all that knocked out by the comic book routine: the choreographer had a
self-consciously edgy look, and her explanation of the dance seemed like it should have been interesting.....and then they danced it and it was tired crap
we've seen a million times before.
The judges can certainly sway people, either directly or in a contrarian way, but I think the way the practice sessions and profiles are edited probably move people just as much if not more. |

I honestly dont know if the judges have that much influence on how people vote. Everyone who has been in the bottom so far deserved to be in the bottom IMO.

Similarly, I think it's naive to think the manipulation doesn't extend down into who gets the better choreography, who gets the baggy and/or stupid and/or generally unflattering outfits, et al. Whether or not the head asshole decides to go off on the bad costuming (while paying useless lip-service to it not being the dancer's fault) or not. |

I think how the dancers are portrayed in their rehearsal footage and in their backstage footage has just as much influence as the judges, if not more. People vote for who they like, plain and simple. If their favourite falls they are still going to vote for them. |
