My mom walked in on a burglar. Luckily she realized what was going on and left the house to call the police. At the time she entered the house, the burglar was
in the process of stealing my nephew's Over n' Under rifle.
He fled with the gun and the other loot he had collected before the police got there. |

I don't have an opinion on gun laws, because I know virtually nothing about guns and gun ownership. I'd feel like an asshole voicing an opinion under
those circumstances, but that doesn't stop most people.

I think gun laws are fine as they are now.
I think people have a constitutional right to own guns at home. Concerning carrying guns to schools, colleges, grocery stores etc, it should be up to the locals. I prefer not being surrounded by people with guns, but that's me. |

Gun laws we have now are fine if the fuckin idiots that made them (mostly democraps) would follow thru and do their diligence in keeping the nuts jobs like the
guy from VA. Tech from getting them. He should have never had the chance if the system the POLITICIANS put in place were followed. But the solution is not to
keep responsible, law abiding citizens from buying and enjoying their shooting sports. And of course the ability to protect themselves! Sometimes common sense
needs to kick in!!!
I can't believe some fuckin suits in D.C wants to tell all of us what is right. |

I've never understood the I need a gun to protect myself arugument.... how many of us have actually been in a situation where we needed a gun ( wanting to
blow the head off of some dumfuck doesn't count either) ??
So fine you have a gun. do you just have it lying around in case you need it??? Chances are if you have kids you have it locked up somewhere... and probably not even loaded.. so the person breaks in and you think you have time to go get the gun before they find you?? Maybe, maybe not.. then what happens when you have the gun on said burglar/rapist whatever and he gets it away from you and bam your dead... and my personal favorite is when Pops blows juniors head off cause he thought he was breaking in when he was just sneaking in after curfew.... If you live in a really bad neighbourhood maybe I can see it.. but the average person will probably never need a gun to protect them. |

There is no reason to fear them. And , if some idiot decides to brek in my house, at least I'll be ready. And you'll be on the phone, asking for help. And sometimes just the presense of the gun is enough to stop whoever from doing what they are there to do. And my son will be right beside me with his .410 shotgun : ). |

Looters freak me out so I have a gun...more for show than blow. That said, my sister, who was institutionalized for 2 months passed a background check. That
worries about the concealed weapons permits and ownership.

We live rurally and own multiple rifles, handguns, etc. Know how to use them and our children are well informed as to their intended use and how dangerous
they are. They do NOT have access to the guns themselves as we lock them up. But should someone threaten our family, the perp would be in trouble.

I get tired of 'debate' over gun control because it's mostly people on both sides taking extreme positions and refusing to listen to other
viewpoints.
All the gun control laws I've ever heard of are attempts to regulate handguns in urban areas. But then the NRA nuts start screaming about how they need hand guns to go deer hunting out in the woods. Cities and rural areas have different needs when it comes to guns, and they should have different laws. I can understand someone living in a rural area wanting to keep a gun around to protect themselves, since any type of law enforcement help is a long ways away. But for me, living in the downtown of a big city, I would feel safer if handguns were simply outlawed and anyone caught with a handgun in the city goes away to prison for 20 years, no exceptions. If you live in a city and feel a need to protect yourself with a gun, buy a shotgun. All of this is moot anyway, because the debate has been laid to rest by the Supreme Court. (And it's also laid to rest any argument that 'strict constructionists' on the Court won't use their power to advance their personal political agenda). |

Your kinda right IMO. The problem with outlawing guns is that if you outlaw them it would effect the law abiding citizen more than the "criminals".
Pepole who follow the proper steps in obtaining the guns would be punished. And, the "bad guys" are gonna have their guns anyway. It was atradgedy
about the idiot frorm Va. Tech, because the "system" should have caught him trying to buy a weapon. To me, the people did not do their job in looking
at his application when he went to the store to buy his 9mm. They are just as responsible for the unfortunate deaths of those students as the shooter IMO. It
is just as important to have the procedures and laws as it is to have responsible peolple who are in the position to approve of someone buying a handgun.
Rifles and shotguns are a different than buying a handgun. To me, that makes no sense. Why do you need to wait 48 -72 hours for a permit to buy a handgun vs.
going in any sporting goods store and a simple call buy a store clerk and you can walk out the door in 15-20 min. A gun is a gun and it is EVERYONES
RESPONSIBILITY from the gun owner to the person approving your purchase.

Aren't most of those kind of regulations pretty worthless? Does anyone ever get turned down? (I don't know -- I'm asking). And things like
Columbine and VaTech are horrible, but you could make pretty much any law and, if someone really wants to get weapons, they will be able to do it.
When I think of gun control legislation, I think to laws like the one in DC that banned handguns. Law-abiding people don't generally carry handguns to work with them, and it doesn't affect hunters or people who want to protect their homes, because they can still buy rifles and shot guns. But it does mean that the cops can arrest drug dealers and other gangbangers who are carrying handguns, even if they don't catch them doing anything else. Why is that such a bad thing? |
