Why ban guns from law abiding citizens? We don't need more gun laws, let's actually enforce the one we have and follow through with them. Should it
take a law to say people with
mental history should not have guns or should that be common sense? |

I don't like them and would never own or allow one in my home, but I don't care if anyone else owns one. Just keep it out of my house, and yes, I do
think there should be background checks. Not only for convicted felons, but if you have ever spent time in a mental health facility.

I was talking to this woman in chat room the other day, and for some reason we started talking about guns and she told me her family had a shotgun. I asked her
if her husband was a hunter or cop or whatever, she said no, it was to shoot people who tresspass on her proprety.
I know it's been said a million times, but it can't be said enough: Guns don't kill people, retarded people who own them kill people. The latter tidbit is a shining example. |

not educated about them. If guns cause crime, then pencils cause misspelled words? A gun in the hand is better than a cop on the phone!!!!! And to follow up your point Dawg, if someone was trying to harm my family or such, I would not hesitate to use ANY OR ALL OF THEM! |

I think guns are unnecessary, at least where I live. I don't worry about trespassers or someone breaking into my house. Odds are if they are going to do it
they are going to do it when I'm not home, or if I am home they are going to get scared and run when they realize I am home.
I seriously think the chances of anyone breaking in because they want to hurt me is less than my chances of winning the lottery. Besides, aren't there many countries that outlaw guns and their crime rates are super low? Something can be learned from that, no? |

The background checks are a joke in Texas - you fill out a 10 question form (one question asks if you've ever gone bonkers) and then they call the FBI. 15
minutes, or less, out you walk with your new gun. And this was a reputable dealer. As long as you don't have a criminal record and answer the questions
correctly, anyone, even a certified psychopath could buy a gun.
We own two rifles and one shotgun. After people were trying to steal gasoline and break into houses following and during the Rita evacuation, we bought a shotgun. |

I don't want my right to bear arms to be taken away!!! The people they are trying to stop using guns don't buy them legitimately anyway, so I believe
they should stop taking law abiding citizens rights away!!

Owning a gun is certainly not for everyone, it is an individuals right and CHOICE to own a firearm.
I agree 100% I don't like them, but if you aren't a criminal or insane, own all the guns you want. |

In my state, NJ, I believe you would have to have a very good reason to get a permit to carry a gun on your person. Unless they have changed the rules! It is
not easy to get that permit. The bad guys don't get permits or buy guns in shops and wait 24 to 48 hours to get their guns. They usually just go into NYC
and find someone on the corner to sell them one, it isn't too hard from what I understand. It scares me that people can walk in off the street and kill
kids in a University or a school or a shop or anywhere for that matter. People are definitely idiots!!
