I would be more than inclined to agree with you... and the piece is geared more to a performance than to a competition, anyway.

The Twitchington performance was a performance more than dance. But that is the beauty fo contemporary dance. I have seen productions that used less movement
than that piece, that used less space and were more an exercise in control than dance, yet it was still dance.
I re-watched Josha and Katee's contemporary piece and fell in love with it a little bit more. I am not a Mia fan at all, but wow. They were really, really good. Almost on par with some of the dancers I have seen in world class contemporary groups. |

I meant performance in literal terms, not meaning it was performance art. And I ADORE Mia, as choreog and as judge. I actually loved the first Mark Chelsie
Mia routine, too.

I want Gilkison from the SYTYCD AUS to work with the dancers in the US and Canada
The paso doble he choreographed was jaw droppingly brilliant. |

So Mia's choreographed a bench routine, a bed routine, and what's next? Dancing on the subway?

After having read quite a bit (was surprised at how many new pages there were to read) I have decided that I quite like Hanson and tend to agree with him 90%
of the time.
The "bed dance" was not a dance. Period. If I knew that I could have been on SYTYCD with my bed jumping skills I would have tried out years ago. However many of the dances (mainly the comments) that Twitch/Kherington and Katee/Joshua get are full of shit. I specifically went back to watch the Joshua/Katee contemporary piece today to make sure that I just wasn't losing my fucking mind when my mouth dropped at the reviews they recieved from the judges. Their steps were not in sync, Katee's feet were clubbed... not even remotely pointed, and it was just plain sloppy. As for Twitch/Kherington let's not get into the detail of whether or not their Vienease Waltz was actually a VW... it was not. I have seen numerous VW's and that shit twas not it. Fool yourselves all you want... alas I won't. I was a huge fucking fan of AI since season one... until this past season where the pimping was so out of control that it took away any fun and spontaneity that it used to have. SYTYCD is turing in the exact same direction. Congrats Nigel... you have managed to fuck up the two greatest reality talent shows on TV. Have a cookie fucker! As for who to vote for. I fucking refuse to vote for those that are pimped to the point of no return (and while I like Mark... he and Chelsie are part of that group)... and I refuse to buy into Nigel's garbage that their shit smells like roses. Those that suck and are rightly told so are few and far between... based on week by week... that would be you Thayne/Comfort and Kourtni/Matt (yet they were finally spared!). So who am I left with? Give me Gev/Courtney any day of the week. They aren't fucking perfect... but they are dayum good... and while others are getting their cornholes licks by pervy Nigel... these two are receiving helpful critique when needed and praise when deserved. They are the underdogs... stuck between the almighty and fucksticks. Good enough to earn their praises and underdog enough make me hope that they will creep up and steal all of the thunder. God willing. Honestly if it weren't for them... I wouldn't give two shits to watch this show or post about it... ever again. Bleh |

Hanson do you like this show at all?
I swear that I still cannot remember over 75% of the dancers names or faces this season. Josh/Katee are my absolute faves. They deliver each week (Benji FAILED them in the west coast swing) and Comfort is just evolving wonderfully as a partner, but she needs to get her shit together for her solos. The others remind me of mactors and I can't for the life of me remember who is who five minutes after they finish dancing. The exception this week was Gev's solo. Damn that was good. I know everyone hates Mia, but her choreography is stunning a lot of the time. Both her routines were amazing. For some reason I really feel like last season had a much better group of dancers and ones that really blew your mind each week or at the very least got better and better. This season a lot of them seem to be lumbering through their routines making tons of mistakes that shouldn't be noticed by the casual viewer. That or they are so bland they are immediately forgotten Jebus. |

Josh/Katee are my absolute faves. They deliver each week (Benji FAILED them in the west coast swing)I guess we finally got to see what they do when they get crappy choreography. Most (I didn't say all) of the dancers this season have had to face bad choreography. Some people made it look good anyway and some couldn't. I actually thought Josh and Katee were decent given what they got (but no where near good or great). But I used to think they'd make anything look good. I now realize they're just like most others and that in order for them to be/remain the best (and they are tied as best for me right now), they also need good choreography (which would be true for just about anybody since it isn't easy to rise above crappy choreography). As for their contemporary, they are supposed to be out of sync - Mia mentioned it was a story about selfish lovers on their own paths who don't seem to match up. |

I'm glad someone else noticed. It was lumbering and ponderous. She went from underrated to way overrated in the space of two shows. |

Gay ballroom dancing is that big of a deal? I know several dance studios in Chicago that do that already and have been doing it for years. Sheesh.
In my ballroom class in college my partner was a (straight) guy because the girls sucked |

Anything that alters movement is no longer a prop.
That said, Nigel complained about wheels in Ivan's shoes, but not the trampoline-like bed. |

The "bed dance" was not a dance. Period. You are kidding me right? You can't seriously be deciding what is or isn't dance (or anything else for that matter) for the rest of us.Love ya AK, but I think you need to go to contemporary dance performances in different cities and compare. It was more an experiment in contemporary movement and dance, and while it wasn't my favourite performance of the night at all (Twitch is way out of his element, but he is trying) it was interesting to watch and fairly well done. I would rather watch THAT then anymore fucking Broadway stylings. Gev and Troll gave it there all and still sucked ass IMO. I shudder to think what we would have to watch if we allowed the masses to determine what 'dance' really is instead of the people who are actually doing it. |

I think people that know dance are getting this show confused with a legitimate dance competition. I think of SYTYCD as a reality show about dance rather than a serious dance competition. I would have no interest watching a serious dance competition. They even say they are trying to find America's FAVOURITE dancer rather than America's BEST dancer. Maybe if the people that know dance should watch the show through that filter. Who knows...they may enjoy the show more than they do now. :shrugs |

SurvivorArctic wrote: I am sorry SA... but had Mia incorporated more of a "dance" into the bed dance then we would have no argument. Jumping on a bed with your toes
pointed and throwing flowers around randomly hardly does a dance make. If only Mia had given them even just a little choreography away from the bed then I
possibly would have liked it just fine. However I stand my position. That was not a "dance".

I never knew there were so many professional dance experts here at Sucks to make sure we all know what is and what isn't dance and what is and what
isn't good. I'm not listening to the judges, who apparently have no dance training or knowledge, anymore. I will now only listen to those here who are
the true experts.

This place is starting to sound like TWoP where everyone complains about hip-hops not being hip-hops and VWs not being VWs. I don't care about that. This
stuff is obviously choreographed to people's limitations.
I just wish the judges weren't useless is all. |
