That particular episode you're thinking of comes from a 1973 anthology series called Ghost Story (aka "Circle of Fear") and the
episode was Earth, Air, Fire and Water.
From what I remember a few friends rent a home in a town and find a series of glowing jars filled with a weird substance. It becomes apparent at the end that
these jars are filled with the souls of previous renters, and they're next.
It should also be noted that Tyne Daly looked halfway decent in her youth before she became the behemoth you know today.
