Wasn't it Delgado who went off about "The Mets are the team to beat" in the offseason? Nice to see he's really backing up that statement with
some fantastic play.

Actually it was Beltran. The same guy who is a clean up hitter and takes fastballs down the heart of the plate with two strikes. I await StarRider's
predictable "Beltran struck out looking in the final AB of Game 7" retort.

Since the Mets have done nothing but disappoint me over the last year, it's more like a sick feeling in my stomach.
Despite that, I'd love to see the Mets go into Philly and take those frauds behind the woodshed. |

Eh, at least you seem to have the better pitching matchups on paper.

Yeah, the Mets seemed to have the better pitching matchups against the Phillies last season. That worked out well.
Santana vs Durbin (edge to Johan obviously but I think Durbin will pitch well tomorrow)

It pains me to go with Philly on this one. But I think the long ball will play a big part in it and Philly has the theoretical edge there. Pedro should retire
while he still has 2 arms. Sad times since he was so great for a while, but thats over. He will be back on the DL this season, book it.
That said, GO Mets and Yankees!! |

For those who always wished they could see them, this weekend will be a special joy as the Sillies roll out Walter Johnson, Lefty Grove, Bob Feller and Robin Roberts. |

A discussion of baseball's best rivalries is here:
http://www.dugoutcentral.com/blog/?p=1602 We all know Yankees Red Sox is #1 but this writer is saying Mets Phillies are ranked #2 using his own mathemetical scale: Mets/Phillies (39) This NL East battle doesn't have quite the history lesson behind it as the Cubs and Cards, but the recent battles have been great, and the Mets'
collapse last year was downright historic. The dislike between the teams has been well documented, but has only played out in the media thus far. One misplaced
fastball could easily change that. The Phillies are currently in first place and the Mets should be closer than they are. Both have been in the playoffs
recently, and no one in either clubhouse is too fond of Mets closer Billy Wagner. Add it up, and you get a powder keg ready to explode.

So the Phillies called up J.A. Happ to start on Friday against $antana. IIRC he was called up to face the Mets last year in June or July and got absolutely
raped.

The Mets/Phillies rivalry was born here in OT years ago. It started with myself and StarRider having our first smackdown fest and the rest is history.

Remember the immortal Kyle Lohse beating Tim Hudson during the final week of the season? Braves quit just like one of their fans. I'm going out of town this weekend but will try to find an unattended laptop somewhere.... Happy 4th. |

Btw- it would be nice if the Braves show the fuck up tonight and beat the Phillies for a change. Sad thing is, if Hamels strikes out McCann for that last out instead of giving up the double, he would've had the same exact line he did the last time he faced the Braves. Hopefully the Mets are getting all their offense out now so they can go on a nice four game drought after. |

I would just like to thank both teams for finally turning in a 2 hr 45 minute game instead of the usual fucking bullshit 3 and 1/2 to 4 hour nightmares that
Yankees/Sox games usually become. Most of that credit goes to Lester for another great start.
