Again repeating my caveat that this is my first season watching: Easily the two biggest drags on this show (and source of most complaints) are Nigel
& Mary. I understand that he controls so much of it, he's going nowhere, but the comment about her having his microballs in an iron grip seems
spot-on, since there's really no way her shit would otherwise be tolerated. Last night I sensed a real loathing of each other between them, too. Do we
have any clues as to the true nature of their satanic collusion?

I hit the mute button everytime Mary opens her mouth lately.

Nigel made Mary a permanent judge after season one. Love her or hate her she is talked about and gets people to watch. If you ask the casual viewer what they
know about the show chances are they will say either Mary Murphy (that crazy lady) or Mia Micheals (that short haired choreographer chick.) Hate Nigel all you
want but he runs a hell of a good show.

RAN. It started out awesome. He is running the risk of the show becoming a parody of itself, these days.

Somebody must have made this comparison by now -- but when I look at Thayne, all I ever see is Just Jack:

Yeah I mean maybe it is time for him to take a step back. Let things fall where they may.
I just hate that they so blatantly diss Jessica/Kourt/Matt/Thayne/Comfort. Even if those couples do well they never get a break cut for them. The overly blatant pimpage needs to stop. Judge every dance for what it is. |

It sort of undermines the winner when there are so many mechanisms in place to ensure that win. Even if I'm ultimately happy with who wins, I can't
help but feel that it was undeserved because Nigel stepped on so many people to make it happen.
Fuckin' A - Will's going to win isn't he? I like him but the constant pimping gets irritating.

Man, Jessica just cannot catch a break. They put her down while blowing smoke up Will's ass, claiming he's a dancing deity who's gracing us with
his presence. I thought she more than held her own in the Jive and Lyrical Jazz routines. I don't think she's the worst dancer there, not with Kourtni
and Comfort still around. To Will's credit, he did look offended on Jessica's behalf when they were criticizing her.
Speaking of Kourtni, I thought she was terrible on the hip-hop, yet they went easy on her and beat up Matt, who's the male Jessica. I think if they end up in the bottom 3 again, they are definitely gone, which is too bad because I would take Matt over Thayne and his perma-grin, which is just as, if not more annoying as Kherington's. Kherington outdanced Twitch on the Paso Doble, and I was cracking up at the bed head during the Contemporary routine. I see what Mia was trying to do with this piece; Twitch was supposed to be a guy who had his heart broken and Kherington was the girl who broke his heart and is appearing in his dream as an entity that Twitch couldn't grab. I enjoyed the story part of it, in spite of it being literally choreographed to the lyrics almost verbatim. I just didn't care for the dancing, whatever little of it there was in the piece. I thought the tossing of the roses was unnecessary. Someone needs to permanently prohibit Mia from using flowers in her pieces. I enjoyed watching Courtney in their hip-hop routine, Gev not so much. Courtney looked like she was out there having fun whereas Gev looked to me like he was overthinking the steps. Their Broadway routine could have been a lot better than it actually was. Nigel was just unsufferable, even moreso than he usually is. He tries to come off as SYTYCD's version of Simon, but Simon has a certain charm to him while Nigel completely lacks any charm or humor. He's one judge who I wouldn't miss if he were to be replaced. |

Oh dear.
While I don't think Thayne is the most exciting dancer on earth, and that smile is enough to make anyone want to smash him in the face with a mallet, I
think he's a better dancer than Gev who I think is useless.

To tell you the honest truth, and it appears we agree, could deal with them cutting all the couples except Mark and Chelsie and Joshua and Katee (though
joshua really disappointed in the West Coast Swing last night). Kherington is back to guest star status for me. Twitch fell a few nothces. Still don't
get Will... he lacks charisma, though has the moves. Matt is adorkable but useless... Kortni and Courtney I can never remember... you get the drill.

Arrogant Dreamer wrote: Their pimpage is the least of my objections. I agree that those of you who have the perspective of past seasons are gonna be understandably inclined to cut
Nigel & Mary some slack. Just know that, from the point of view of someone watching for their first season, his arrogance and pomposity seem completely
and utterly unfounded. My jaw drops several times each show at how obviously he thinks he's the shit and knows everything ABOUT everything. Similarly,
based solely on behavior and appearance, Mary seems like some insufferable suburban shrew who lives at the Dress Barn and lords it over her weekly jazzercize
class out at the mall.

cginspace wrote: That about sums it up. My comment earlier was to just keep J&K and M&C at this point with cameo appearances on occasion from Twitch/ington. I agree about Will. At first glance I find him sexy but that badly grown cheesy goatee does not work on him at all. And he dances well and everything, but I never just enjoy watching him as much as I enjoy Josh and Mark. I don't think he has the charisma that they do, but apparently I have no clue about dancing because the judges tell me every week that apparently Will is the greatest dancer that ever has lived. |

Maybe they can reserve a spot for Will on Debbie Allens' newest go-round of Fame. I mean, we all know she's just itching to reivnent that puppy one
more time.

Similarly, i forget Will. Odd thing is, many have bought into the hype on him. I suppose many may just honestly like him. I suspect, however, that just as
many have chosen to believe the judges. I just find myself nodding pleasantly while he dances, and if I rewatch, I see some skill... yet I NEVER remember him.
Twitch, to me, is way overrated and fairly sloppy a lot of the time... but at least I remember him. |

The thing about some of these dancers is that some of the couples are so right together, have so much chemistry, that they prop each other up and their performances are usually the most entertaining. Just happens that this year they also have some of the most talented dancers in the right pairings. I personally tend to watch the girls during the dances, just because I'm a girl and "I like to wonder what if I could dance like that?" I love watching Katee, Chelsie and Kherington, but I also am drawn to watch the guys they are paired with, too. That is a very good sign. In Will's case, I usually don't notice him. Jessica is very vibrant, however I watch her because I am looking for all of the slip ups--and there's a lot of them. It's almost as though she doesn't completely know the routines when she dances? I need to rewatch the performances night and focus on Will. At this point I couldn't tell you if he is better than Joshua or not because I haven't paid him any attention. Same thing with Gev--except I do notice him more, which may mean that he and Courtney are more connected than Jessica and Will. In Matt and Kortni's case I watch both of them, but for not so good reasons. First of all, they both look like they are working too hard or over thinking, so it's not as entertaining. Also, I am drawn to watch Matt because he is the more elegant and feminine dancer. But I am just not loving his style because it is always too balletic and he can't seem to tone it down. I just don't enjoy Kortni's dancing at all. Yeah, I know she can dance, but she is just too big. That wouldn't be a problem except that she doesn't have much grace so the bigness overwhelms. I'd say (sort of joking) let Matt dance the girl's part and Kortni dance the boy's, but they don't have the great chemistry either so it still wouldn't work for me. I always watched Comfort when she was paired with Chris, and watched Thayne equally with Chelsea. I need to rewatch both performances from last night to see if I liked them together. All said, as long as Josh/Katee, Mark/Chelsie and Twitch/Kherington are safe tonight I'm good. If Matt goes and Kortni doesn't I don't know how in the world she would be able to be partnered by Thayne or Will. |
