Just making a correction: I forgot that Daughtry had another single too "Over You." It was that single they ran in tandem with "Crashed."
AFTER that, they released FLT to Pop, and now, "What About Now" to Hot A/C. So "What About Now" is his sixth single (although they
don't count "Crashed" in the pantheon of "hits" because it didn't do all that well on Rock, the only one to not take off. Never
fear, we'll probably see it again later).
^^ But, they ALL are reliant on Idol for sales, that's no surprise. Daughtry is nowhere near "pure" rock, he's a dumbed-down version made palatable for the masses. So his genre is actually Hot A/C, more than any Rock or Pop, although he's had success in all 3. That success across genres is directly attributable to AI, for all of them. |

I don't know foggy... Kelly didn't do any promotion on Idol for her biggest album, Breakaway, so I wouldn't say she's reliant on Idol for
sales, not to mention Breakaway was a huge departure from what she sang on idol. So far Kelly is really the only one who broke away from the style of music
she sang on Idol and had significant commercial success. Not to say that others' can't at some point do the same thing...it just hasn't happened
so far.
I was surprised Crashed didn't do better actually. It was, IMO, the strongest song on the entire CD... but then I guess it wasn't, as you described, a watered down rock song... |

Kelly will forever be part and parcel of AI, as will all the others. There is no real "breaking away" from a juggernaut like that show became,
because the show is more famous than any person that emerged from it! She definitely reached out to teenies who didn't watch the show for her sales of the
second album, but so did Daughtry -- to rock and hot a/c and a/c audiences who probably didn't watch the show, AND Carrie (to pop, hot a/c and a/c
audiences, AND Jordin for that matter, from Pop to R&B, Urban and Urban A/C markets).
But EVERYONE from that show will always have as their base support, people who know them from AI first and foremost. Kelly is no different from the rest. |

I just don't see it that way foggy. Kelly and Justin were on the least watched season of them all, therefore their fanbases from idol would be
substaintially smaller than those who appeared after the first season. I think it's safe to say that they picked up very few new idol fans by appearing on
subsequent seasons, hence the angst amoung the different fanbases. If they shared the majority of their fans, there wouldn't be a need to compete,
everyone would be happy for everyone else's success.
I do agree that all the contestants will forever be identifiable with the show but to say that the largest portion of Kelly's fanbase is from idol discounts her entire fanbase outside the U.S. who never even saw her season of Idol. I also agree with you that those who saw her on Idol will be the ones who remain loyal through her career ups and downs, because we feel we had a hand in helping her get her career off the ground and therefore might feel more personally invested than the fan who came to know and love her post idol. I think it's that way for most artists though.. if you become a fan at the very beginning and find something that connects you to that artist, you tend to remain loyal, Britney Spears has some crazy loyal fans LOL... I also don't tend to agree that Carrie's fanbase is made up largely of idol viewers per se. I think she has greatly expanded her fanbase beyond the core idol fans who voted for her, hence both of them sell 6+ million albums. That's far beyond the reach of the idol fans IMO. |

enjoy her all you want. I prefer someone that can sing when listening to music. She is a writer singing her creations which is fine but for now that's all she is w/ a tween following it made the olsen twins rich and we know they are all so talented |

Small, they are not even in the same league. When Carrie releases her 3rd cd, than we'll compare her sales to My December. Maybe 10 years from now, MD is
what will save Kelly's career and not turn her into a throw away POP STAR, but an artist with substance. Kelly's writing might not be the greatest now
according to the haters, but it a lot better than All-American Girl.
