James was a horrible player that thought he was some sort of reality TV game show prodigy. He had no strategy, he thought he was smarter than anyone else and he had no alternatives if some part of his plan didn't go his way. A good player can roll with the puches and evolve their strategy to work with the ever changing landscape of the game. James couldn't do that. Anytime something didn't go his way, it was someone else's fault. He needed to suck it up and just do better, but he couldn't. Yes, at challenges he was good. Not arguing that point, but strategically he was on the lower rungs of the ladder. Also I knew he was going to be a douche early on in season 6 when in a talking head he said that he didn't tell people his real profession "Because it wasn't any of their business" and he said it so seriously and so intently that he just seemed like a giant tool. Plus when he said is training AS DEPARTMENT STORE COP allowed him to read people, that just sealed his dumb shit status to me. Kaysar strongarmed him into join the Sovereigns. On BBAS, he didnt want Kaysar gone week 5, Danielle did, which I think fundamentally changed the game and put it into the hands of CT. I can concede that he isnt the genius he thinks he is, but I don't think by any means is he an idiot, he has strategical thoughts. I would call him a mid level stratagist with a mastermind like persona. Maybe thats one of the reasons I like him. He has ambitions beyond his place and I think with enough chancs, he could master the game. I can't say I like his whining though, but overall hes a good guy I think

He probably would have done better if during his myriad of lies, he flashed a dazzling smile and made e1 else feel important aka Dr. Will. He would have gotten away with a lot more if he was as charasmatic as Will, but he wasn't. Conversely, Dick had zero manipulative skills as his strategy was more to bulldoze his competitors (which during a normal season would have him booted within 3 or 4 weeks). Dick was very intuitive in pointing out the weaknesses of past players and it's ironic that he wasn't as reflective of his own weaknesses. I guess it's easier pointing out others' flaws than examining one's own. Dick won't be remembered as a master strategist or even the tightest alliance in bb history. He will be remembered for his over-the-top, raw personality in a season scripted by Alison Grodner.
