If they resign him they probably won't be able to sign Hamels or Howard long term but if they don't they might be able to lock up one or both. I don't think they would do it with Hamels though because they like waiting for rookie contracts to end before they offer long term deals. And I don't think SR will be doing that considering Chipper is headed to the DL.

The Phillies have announced that RHP Brett Myers has been demoted to Triple-A Lehigh Valley to work on his delivery. In Myers last 12 starts, the Phillies are 1-11. A replacement for Myers, who is 3-9 with a 5.84 ERA this season, on the 25-man roster has not been announced, but Cole Hamels will move up his start and pitch Thursday versus the Braves.
