You must be a shitty driver. I'll bet you were on your cell phone too.

I always try to make eye contact with drivers that might hit me when I cross the street

I live in a third world country. The pedestrian signs are nay, the people jaywalk side to side without pedestrian lane.

After living in NYC I always make sure I look and NEVER assume the car coming at me is going to stop.

i work on a college campus and the months of august through april are maddening. they don't even look...they jaywalk like motherfuckers. it's a miracle people don't get hit more often. |

In L.A. cars are all hard core about stopping and letting pedestrians go.

Did you come to a complete stop at the red or were doing a rolling stop where you can see no vehicles are coming through their green light on the cross street,
so you immediately turn right on red?? Admit it.
Cuz that flashing walk signal turns on for all of about 5 seconds when the light changes - while it's lit, the crossing pedestrians are encouraged to hurry their asses across the street. The walk signal turns to the hand long before they could ever fully cross. So pedestrians cross first, then right on reds can turn once the pedestrians have cleared half the distance. But what if more are running up to the curb...that's the sneaky part, they can still start out once the hand is on, but it gets questionable then. |

bottom line... it would be horrible to hit someone with your car regardless of who is in the right.
it's always best to air on the side of caution when you are driving so when the day is over you can go home and go to sleep without the image of someone splayed across your windshield. |

I'm with you dhc. If a car and a person are going to collide, it's pretty obvious who's going to win therefore pedestrians should always look
before they cross the fucking street. It's not rocket science. Pedestrians in America need to spend some time in Italy. Then they will learn. They will
have to learn.

sledgehammers work wonders as do bricks
I was in my car sitting at a light once and I heard a huge ruckus behind me. Looked in my rear view window and some woman was bashing in this guy's windshield with a brick screaming at the top of her lungs. I left ASAP. |

Honestly, the way this guy was waving his hands and acting all superior, I think I might have slept better tonight if I would have at least dinged him |

You were wrong, but pedestrians do take their lives into their hands when they assume a driver will be looking for them. I think their tombstone should read
"But I Had The Right Of Way"

If they have a problem with your driving they should stay off the side walk.
