I think being a war hero automatically makes someone a good president.

The Dem convention in Denver this year has lots of rules to be green and socially conscious. No fried food, locally grown produce and food to minimize
transportation fuel use, domestic union produced hats and fanny packs that need to use fabric made from organically grown cotton (grwon in the US), etc. It
reminded me of a song....
Liberals were having trouble, what a sad, sad story Needed a new leader to restore their former glory Where, Oh where was he? Where could that man be? We looked around and then we found The man for you and me. And now it's.. Convention time for Obama and Arugula Denver is happy and gay We're marching to a faster pace Look out, here come the veggie plates Convention time for Obama and Arugula Winter for Cheney and Bush Springtime for Obama and Arugula Come on, Unions, gotta' get a push He's from Chicago, and that is why they call him Fast Eddie Don't be stupid, be a smarty, come and join the jack-ass party Convention time for Obama and Arugula Backstep's the new step today Lies falling from the skies again Liberals are on the rise again Convention time for Obama and Arugula Gas prices are rising once more Convention time for Obama and Arugula Means that soon we'll be going We've got to be going You know we'll be going to vote TWICE! |

Pahrump Mania wrote:The difference between the similar federal legislation that passed unanimously and was crafted in bipartisan fashion in the U.S. Senate and the state legislation called by Republican Illinois Senate President Pate Phillip that Obama voted against is that the state legislation was unconstitutional, included language that conflicted with Roe v. Wade, and was not drafted or created in a bipartisan fashion at all but simply came up as something for Pate to call to embarrass Democrats. Nice to see that Pate's handiwork is still paying dividends for Republicans I guess, even if the Illinois GOP is kind of extinct right now. |

The good and the bad about McCain is public knowledge. He has a long legislative history, and he has also taken a firm stand on most issues. You have got to be kidding, right? |

How about he has at least taken a stand on most issues, which is more than your guy can say.

Well Obama is pretty firm on tax the rich because it's the fair thing to do.

Plus he has come out loudly in favor of "PRESENT" on many critical Senate votes.

You know, this whole "flip flop" thing hjas gotten out of control. Do we really want a president who is so locked into whatever his position was on
any issues five or ten years ago, that he can't reevaluate anything?
I hope whoever is President can change their positions as events unfold and things change. It was a stupid issue against Kerry and its an even more stupid issue today. For example, eight years ago, gas didn't cost $4 a gallon. Today it does, and the efects of that are just beginning to ripple thorough the economy. Plus, there are lots of reasons to believe it will go higher still. Anyone who doesn't rethink their positions on exploration and all other aspects of energy policy is not a good choice for public office. |

I think Kerry/Obama's deal is they would say one thing to one group and day and the next say just the opposite to another group. That's what comes from
you party being formed by a loose coalition of special interest groups.

I've been perusing one of the old political threads in Purgatory from November 2006, and I found an insightful post from Glazerboy:
I did not accuse this president of being poll driven. I accused him of playing politics with every single situation that comes across his desk. Ask any political observer and you will be told the same thing - this White House is the most poltically driven one they've ever seen. No decisions are made in this White House without the political impact on the Republican party being given heavy weight.Glazerboy As I continued on, I found this from TRho: Not only do I not think this is true, I know for a fact that the vaunted Bob Woodward doesn't think it's true.TRho And now, of course, we have confirmation from Scottie McClellan that Glazer is/was right: Washington Post I love walking down memory lane. |

Did you know John McCain is the only Senator who appears on a US coin?
And his head is on both sides of it. |

It's interesting to know that Nubber puts more faith in Scott McClellan than Bob Woodward.
And damn girl, but I'm brilliant in that link..."Where's Ogdenite, I want him to see a wealth redistributor in his natural habitat, a pants pocket." HAH! I crack me up. |

I'm certainly not saying I put more faith in Scott McClellan than Bob Woodward, I'm saying I put more faith in Scott McClellan than George Bush lying
to Bob Woodward.
And that thread was WAY more fun than this one. BTW, ColbyRulesAll called President Obama back in '06. Premature congrats, CRA! |
