Rowlf the Dog Any dog that plays the piano is A-OK by me. It's hard to explain why I love Rowlf so much, but he was always my favo in all the muppet movies, and it would always be a delight to see him on screen. He managed to blend satirical wit with adorableness and great music. And you can't ask for much more out of any muppet program than that. Little known fact is, Rowlf was built for other purposes. Originally he did dog food commercials and then was on the Jimmy Dean show for 3 years, before he ever made his way in with the other muppets. He was a star in his own right. And here is the biggest fact, in the original Sesame Street pitch reel....who was suggesting the idea to the powers that be? That's right, Rowlf the Dog. I bet you all didn't know how influential Rowlf was. However, to me the crowning Rowlf moment will always be The Muppet Movie where he played the local bar pianist who was able to console Kermit on what was happening. That will be the second clip, but the first up, makes me cry everytime I see it. And it probably will till the day I die, if that makes me less of a male then so be it. But it's beautiful and it touches my heart. And this seems as good of a time to go on my praising Jim Henson speech as many. Nobody is perfect, and he surely wasn't. But in the end the man was a genius, and he wanted to entertain people. Kids and adults a like. Aside from Walt Disney and maybe Mr. Rogers, no one has shaped children's programming as much as he did. He was a wonderful man whose legacy will live on, past all others, cause muppets will never die. Though not as popular as they once were, I have no doubt one day they will be just as big again. Anyways....on to what I was discussing earlier And one more, since I had never seen this before and it was pretty amazing John Denver<3 |

And to finish it up......
1. Bert The good thing about this list, was the fact that aside from a few people (Naj and maybe Osten Carty) no one knew of my Bert obsession. Bert has been my favorite muppet basically since I was born. Why? I don't know, but I like to think it's cause even as a toddler, I had a sophisticated sense of humor. Because of this, I think I have developed into someone much like Bert. The serious, no non-sense demeanor, who, despite the gruff attitude really is caring soul who just wants to help other people. Plus I am very fond of oatmeal, bottlecap, paperclips, pigeons and the letter W. I often judge people, partly on how they view Bert. Only a few people, have truly "Got" what Bert was all about and how many layers to him there were. One of them were my Manda. But anyways, Bert is the awesomeness. He's deadpan and hilarious. He has way more, grown up jokes, I guess you could say than everyone else combined. I imagine, if you were a parent and were not a fan of the show, the one time youd be able to laugh is at some of the stuff Bert says. Bert is organized, and detail oriented, and basically everything I ever want to be. It's hard to just pick a few clips, but i'll try my best. This one, is the first I always show people to demonstrate how awesome Bert is such laffos So touching <3 "I am not IT" I could go on, but I believe i'll end it there. I hope you all enjoyed this list and got to relive some of your favo muppet memories. Naj, hopefully will continue with the muppet babies, but my part is done here. I'll probably go bank to something reality related for my next list. Thanks for reading everybody, God Bless |

Bert definitely deserves to be atop the list of the greatest Muppets. Supporting characters like the Swedish Chef and Count Von Count had many laffo moments
but it was Bert that you really watched the show for because he seemed like a real friend. I had a little plush Bert doll when I was a wee toddler that looked
much like this:
We were best buddies and then my little brother went and gave him a haircut to where he was almost bald. I was crushed and vowed to take revenge for my little plush friend. Maybe that is why I have such an affinity for Bert. Anyway this has been a great list Louie. The rankings have been very fun to keep up with. |
