Shrek has the creative team and cast to be very good (I refuse to believe a musical with Jeanine Tesori composing all the music wont at least be good), and its
supposedly based far more on the book than the movie. Great composer, lyricist and book writer and a great cast, can't wait!

Beauty & the Beast
Lion King Little Mermaid Shrek I HATE HATE HATE the trend of all of that Disney and/or animated crap becoming Broadway shows. I'd much rather go see the revival of South Pacific than any of those. |

Disney has a nemo musical in the Animal Kingdom which is awesome.
The problem with lion king is it couldn't decide if it was a cool ethnic show or a disney show. 80% of the show was cool african sounding music. Then we have hakuna matata randomly tossed in which is completly off the wall. Lion king was fun though and mini-meatball at three and a half loved it. I would have liked it better if the idiot next to me hadn't insisted on singing along. My three year old had better audience ettiquite than she did. |

Thanks diss for that info on "George". I heard the announcer but none of what he said made much sense & then I saw the scene with a WTF was
that? I still don't think I would enjoy that play.
I think I would love In the Heights & Xanadu because of the hotness that is Cheyenne (so what if he's gay I can still look & dream/lust). |

George is susposed to be fantastic. I think it's one of those musicals that you need to see in the theater.

(I'm not even secretely thrilled to see all the fellow Broadway dorks in here- loving it!)
But I am it total agreeance that Disney should stick to movies & quit the musical biz. I'd like to see an original musical made for the wee set. That would be fantastic. |

As I said earlier in this thread, I consider Sunday In The Park With George to be one of the 3 best musicals of all time, have been obsessed with it since I
was 9. Take a look at the DVD of the original cast that is out there, Bernadette Peters and Mandy Patinkin were stunning (and I usually hate him) and its one
of the few musicals ever to win the Pulitzer Prize for drama.
Sutton Foster being in Shrek is actually one of the few reasons I wouldnt want to see it, I am just not a fan of hers. She is certainly extremely talented, but the only role of hers I ever enjoyed her in was in The Drowsy Chaperone, she was actually charming in that underrated show. |

I thought she was adorable in "Young Frankenstein".
Oh we forgot another show being made into a musical... 9 to 5! Mock me if you must, but I cannot wait for it. |

Disney has ran a successful production of 'Hunchback' in Germany for several years, yet for reasons unkown they never brought it to America. I've
heard it's very dark.

Tis a shame they felt they couldnt tarnish their image over here by transferring it over |

It's an on-going conflict, but it does tend to compromise the artistic integrity of a show when an actor who originates the role is replaced with a 'star.'In any case, Tracy Letts has some cahones. A while back here in Chicago, he called a critic who'd given him a bad review a horse's cock. ;) |

It's an on-going conflict, but it does tend to compromise the artistic integrity of a show when an actor who originates the role is replaced with a 'star.' What always puzzles me is what they consider a 'name'. A friend of mine was Reba McIntyre's understudy in "Annie Get Your Gun", and she was fantastic in the role when she went on. When Reba left, I know she desperately wanted to take over the role. Unfortunately, they brought a 'name' actress in from Hollywood. Who was it? CRYSTAL FUCKING BERNARD! Is Crystal really a 'name'? Or, for that matter, is she really an "ACTRESS"?!?! Seriously, wouldn't they have been better off just letting the talented girl do the role? |
