June 16, 2008 - Carrie Underwood has spent much of the year on tour as the headliner or co-headliner, and while Carrie might like seeing her name in lights, she didn't initially think she was ready for that role.
"I think I was the last one on board with the whole headlining thing," she told the national radio show GAC Nights: Live From Nashville. "A lot of people [said], 'This is a good idea. We can sell this. People'll come.' And I'm like, 'Are you sure people are going to show up? 'Cause I don't know.'"
Carrie's first touring experience came as one of multiple attractions on the American Idol Tour in 2005, and she quickly followed that up as one of the opening acts for Kenny Chesney in 2006. Despite her familiarity with the process, she had doubts about whether or not she was ready to take over the top spot.
"It's just a lot of responsibility," she explained. "I want everyone to enjoy themselves. I'm still a concert-goer. Growing up I went to tons of concerts, and it was just one of the things that I loved to do more than anything. So I know how they feel, and I know what I would want to see, and I just want everybody to have a good time."
Carrie co-headlined this year with Keith Urban, then went off on her own Carnival Ride Tour with Josh Turner as her first opening act, then with Jason Michael Carroll. This fall, she'll take off on another round of dates with Little Big Town as the lead-in.
