Has there been any announcement of anyone filling in for him? Or will they just put in another show in that slot temporarily? I can't imagine that show
going on with someone else hosting.

I can remember staying up all night watching him with his dry erase board with the gore/bush bush/kerry elections. He set the bar for modern day political news
reporting-it won't be the same without him.

Tim Russert always struck me as a decent and fair newsman. Yes, 58 is too early to die, even for a man. Two days before Father's Day, when he could have
celebrated with his family.
I feel bad. It hits me hard when someone so young is taken away.

I heard this while in an afternoon meeting, thought it was a joke or a hoax. But after the meeting I grabbed my PDA and as always, the OT Forum was on top of
current events.
Russert was the kind of journalist all journalism students aspire to be. From Wiki: Format with Tim RussertUntil Tim Russert's untimely death, the show's format consisted of an extended one-on-one interview with the host, and was sometimes followed by a roundtable discussion or one-on-two interview with figures in adversarial positions, either Congress members from opposite sides of the aisle or political commentators. NBC's Washington bureau chief Tim Russert hosted the show from December 8, 1991 until June 8, 2008, under the full title Meet the Press with Tim Russert. The show expanded to 60 minutes starting with the September 20, 1992 broadcast.[2] Russert's sign-off was, "That's all for today. We'll be back next week. If it's Sunday, it's Meet the Press." During the football season, Russert, a native of Buffalo, New York and avid Buffalo Bills fan,[3][4] sometimes added, "Go Bills!", and occasionally would ask panelists, "How 'bout those Sabres?" if the Buffalo NHL hockey team is doing well. Spoofs of the show on Saturday Night Live often reflect this addition. Occasionally, a final segment called "The Meet the Press Minute" was added. It was devoted to topical clips from the show's extensive archives. Tim Russert died June 13, 2008 of a heart attack while doing voice-over work for the next Sunday program. He had just returned from a trip to Italy to celebrate his son's college graduation. He was 58 years old and had spent more than 17 years as moderator of Meet The Press. [edit] Moderators

Sportscaster Charlie Jones, 77, dies of heart attack
Charlie Jones, the deep-voiced sportscaster whose career as a play-by-play announcer dated to the beginning of the American Football League in 1960, has died. He was 77. Jones died of a massive heart attack Thursday at his home in the La Jolla district of San Diego, said his wife, Ann. Jones, who retired in the late 1990s, had been in poor health for several years, she said. Jones worked for ABC and NBC in a career spanning 38 years. "He said, 'I never felt like I ever went to work,'" Ann Jones said Friday. "He loved it. He said, 'I've got the best seat in the house.' " Jones started at ABC in 1960, the year the AFL made its debut. He moved to NBC in 1965, remaining with that network until 1997. Jones announced 28 different sports, while with NBC, from golf to tennis, baseball to figure skating. He called events at the 1988 Seoul Olympics and the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. "He really liked them all," Ann Jones said. "He really did. He wasn't particular, because they were all so different." NBC Sports chairman Dick Ebersol called Jones "one of the great pioneers of NBC Sports. His work in particular on the NFL, golf and the Olympics left a lasting legacy." Longtime agent Martin Mandel said Jones was "one of the legends of sports broadcasting." "He had a wonderful kettledrum voice. He was known for that and his versatility," Mandel said. Jones will be cremated and his ashes spread over the Pacific Ocean. A celebration of his life will be held Wednesday afternoon at the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club. "He had it in his will that men cannot wear ties," Ann Jones said. Jones also is survived by two children and three grandchildren. |

Very nice job tonight by the various colleagues of Tim's on the various networks...amazing tribute, no matter what their current network affiliation is. I
know there are some major Keith haters here, but I think he did an excellent job on MSNBC. Campbell Brown was excellent on CNN also, IMO.
The snark highlight of the night was Barbara Walters (looking like the cryptkeeper and wearing a VERY obvious hairpiece which made me think of that "wiglet" nic that used to exist here), who never failed to push her own book even as she was paying a lovely and heartfelt tribute. |

Does that kid have the Downs? No, that Kid just graduated Boston College last week. And Little Russ just treated him to a European vacation. (He flew in from Rome, yesterday to start in on "Meet the Press" for Sunday. And DIED in the press room for "Meet the Press" doing promo voice-overs for Sunday's "Meet the Press." And scheduled to do a Commencement Address MONDAY. (His FIFTH of FIVE done this year.) While celebrating his son's graduation from Boston College an putting Big Russ, Timothy E. Russert, Sr, into an nursing home this week. Putting himself under INCREDIBLE STRAIN probably killed him. That's how he CHOSE to live. That's how he DIED. LET'S PRAY that's how we ALL GO, doing what WE LOVE. Still, in this INCREDIBLE POLITICAL SEASON, it seems UNFAIR that Tim Russert go before November. YOU WAS ROBBED!!! ___ Tim Russert's GREATEST MOMENT of the PRIMARIES!!! Terry McCauliffe, saying if his dad and Big Russ were STILL ALIVE, they would be enjoying this with Scotches. (While Big Russ is STILL ALIVE, watching the show from his Barkalounger.) Here's to Lil' Russ and Papa McAuliffe ENJOYING NOVEMBER 10,000 SCOTCHES from their Big Barkaloungers in the SKY!!! Miss you on Election Night!!! |
