Tim Russert Dies of a Heart Attack
TMZ: NBC News' Tim Russert has died of a heart attack, the New York Times is reporting. He was 58. The Times cites Russert's family as its source. The "Meet the Press" host is survived by his wife Maureen Orth -- a special correspondent for Vanity Fair -- and their adult son, Luke. Story developing ... NY Post: Tim Russert, NBC journalist and political heavyweight host of "Meet the Press," has died after collapsing at NBC's Washington news bureau, a source said. He was 58 years old. Russert, who rose from the inside world of politics where he was former New York Gov. Mario Cuomo's press secretary and one-time chief of staff to the late Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan, was able to successfully cross over to political journalism and rise to become one of its leading lights. I'd seen that Wiki had been updated, but I don't trust them as a reliable source anymore.
I'd caught the NBC break-in just after I'd made my post. CBS broke in, as well. NBC should have a HUGE piece on him tonight, but I'm hoping that, given that they have nearly an hour available, the NewsHour (Lehrer) will have a very good, in-depth piece on him - if not tonight, sometime next week. Damn. Russert didn't shy back from the tough storylines AT ALL. He was a damn, damn good newsman. |

I'll miss his little chalkboard come November. No one in the pressroom would get more excited than Tim when fresh exit polling numbers would come in, and
he'd carefully erase and rewrite the new tallies on his board then give a knowing smirk to the camera.
