I am looking for a medium size town that hasn't been ruined by developers - still smells and feels like the real deal..not a tourist trap either....where writers and early adapters would pick because it hasn't been commercialized, strip malled or subdivided....the grid is intact and original...now it's not in the middle of nowhere either - decent shopping should be within an hour...doens't have to be on a river or coast...but it should scream the best of what we all love New England for. hyes, and folks like the Bushes do NOT have their summer digs here...
If the town is close to a major metro, is the metro of personal preference Portland versus Augusta or Bangor?
I hear Portland has more culture...ie galleries, shops, book stores, ballet, etc...
Anybody live in Maine? Curious to know how your taxes are - such horror stories..it makes the top of all highest tax state lists but when I study it, it doens't net much worse than NH....due to the underlying cost of the home...cheaper in Maine by a mile...thanks...
I spent time there as a kid-- went to the New England Music Camp in Sidney. That's about all I know..That and the Bay of fundy..not much to go on..thanks!
