Also, since when did Sun become such a bada**? Love it! Looks like Kate now gets haunted too. Eventually, all the O6 are going to get drawn back to the island.... Sawyer has evolved from the selfish guy in season 1 to the selfless guy he is now. Love him! Jack, on the other hand.....seems to be spiralling downhill from season 1.... Oh....and Desmond and Penny

Posts: 1596 (06/01/08 4:04 PM) Registered user Reply Quote More Recent Posts Message Connection Block Invite	If you can believe Hurley when he said they had to travel 3,000 miles to get to Membata Island which is presumably close to the faked airplane crash we can draw a circle on a map to try and figure out where the island was before it moved when Ben turned the lever. Didn't one of Keamy's men or shipmates vaguely mention where the ship was when Sayid and Desmond came on board? I'm beginning to think that maybe the island also moved when Desmond turned the reset key since it would have been more likely that the plane would have been enroute somewhere between Australia and North America.

That plus something someone mentioned (I think it was in this thread) about Ben's moving the island actually moving it through time got me on a thought tangent that seemed to fit what I originally posted. Think the way their films look, their retro equipment, etc. So if when Ben moved the island he was actually moving it to another place in time this might actually be able to fit because it could mean prior to the most recent move they were actually moved 20-30 years ago. Like maybe just after the DI had been wiped out but before the outside Dharma contacts were aware of it.

I said something about this in another thread a few days ago but it's relevant here too...I totally agree on the moving in time deal. At first, it seemed obvious that the island moved to a different location because the O6 watched it vanish, but I noticed that in the Orchid video, when Wickman was talking about moving the rabbit in time, he said something like, "for brief moments, the animal will seem to disappear." Maybe if the island traveled more time than the rabbit, it seemed to disappear for a longer amount of time. Also, someone else mentioned that right after Ben wound up in Tunisia (wearing the same clothes with the same scratch on his arm), he didn't seem to know what year it was. When he asked, it was October 2005 (about 9 months later than when he pushed the donkey wheel).

And i wasnt aware that animals cant go in a 180 semi circle...they can only go 360 degrees or else they explode! :P You dont NEED to have an animal go a full circle with the donkey wheel! Thats the thing...they bounce to the other side of the planet in the desert after they only go halfway! It has to do with a wheel being able to go in a full circle. Cos you never see a wheel turned by an animal where it turns the wheel half way then they unhook it and move it back to the other side of the wheel to do it again. That being said, that logic is flawed because your point is valid that they would only turn the wheel a bit then they would disappear. I am still not ready to subscribe to "that's why they had polar bears" theory cos it seems stupid to keep a bunch of polar bears around to spend 2 seconds moving a wheel when a horse or donkey could easily do it and they would be much easier to come by. Honestly, I would be disappointed if that was the sole reason they had polar bears. If that happened to be one of many things they had polar bears for, ok. But if that is the sole reason they had polar bears, that is just dumb.

Maybe they trained the bears to stay down there and not move for a specified amount of time...who knows. Its possible polar bears were trained for other things, not sure why, but its possible. But im pretty sure they were brought to the island in the first place because of that wheel. If it was just to have trained animals, there are hundreds of better kinds to choose. And if it was just about experimenting on making animals function in different climates, we would have seen alot more types of animals on that island than just polar bears. But i still want your opinion on the "wtf" polar bear moments in Lost you brought up in your last post! We both agree that is why they showed is a polar bear in S1...its to make us go "wtf! why is there a polar bear on a tropical island??" But why do you think they showed us a dead dharma polar bear in the desert at the beginning of this season? No reason? They couldnt have been to just rehash the same "wtf" factor again...

There wasn't any big reason to have a human enter the code every 108 minutes when it would have been a lot easier to automate the process. For goodness sakes that room was filled with computers! Are we supposed to think that there wasn't a software person in Dharma that could have written a batch file to enter the numbers every 108 minutes? And at the very least someone could have designed a mechanical gizmo that would have typed the numbers and carriage return directly onto the keyboard if they wanted it decoupled from the computer system. The same thing applies to the stupid donkey wheel. Why the fuck do you need a trained polar bear lurking down there to turn the wheel on command? Couldn't you just rig a rope from down the tunnel to move the lever? Or maybe a pulley system if it needs to move more than 180 degrees? And don't give me any BS about an organic animal needing to be in the pit to allow the negatively charged exotic matter to do its thing. In that case you could just duct tape a mouse or a bunny to the rope or throw it in the pit before you need to turn the wheel.

Ben turns wheel -Ben ends up in desert ___________ - Polar Bear ends up in the desert. The fact that its in a cold climate and they are polar bears is just the icing on the cake. They obviously have smart bears to figure out their feeding devices that were in the cages Sawyer and Kate were in.

I think they were used by Dharma to experiment about sustaining life in strange climates....and also were used to practice time/space travel...before or after the bunnies. That's why there was a skeleton of a polar bear with a Dharma collar buried in Tunisia. It was sent back in time. That confirmes that the FDW is old...along with the primitive markings in the FDW chamber. I think it's obvious that the polar bears were turning the wheel. When we got Ben's flashforward in Season 4 (sorry, I'm bad about episode names), he woke up in the desert with the parka and IIRC an arm injury. Now at the end of season 4 we see that he got down to the FDW wheel and as he went down, one of the rungs broke and he hurt his arm. His flashforward picks up just after the finale ends. Charlotte also found the remains of a polar bear in a desert somewhere. I think Ben had other means of getting off the island, but the FDW takes you out to the desert in a big country, where dreams stay with you, like a lover's voice... I also think there were also polar bears that used for experiments (bear cages that Sawyer and Kate were trapped in).
