lol, I actually found a site that still has some archives of the early days of the events that transpired. I just searched Google for "History of the
Board Wars" and found the jackpot.

There's plenty to read here at Sucks if you are so inclined. This one is pretty good: http://survivorsucks.yuku.com/topic/10309?page=1
(Purgatory is a much overlooked forum.) |

I'm sure all this seems overblown and ridiculous to everyone now, but back in the day it seemed like serious drama. Elipsiiis planning on opening up a
public board supported by advertising without even asking those of us whose serious (as opposed to sourced) spoiling efforts had been a big part of building up
the EBT brand name. Cygnuts stalking a 15-year-old member of our board. Moles revealing highly personal information about people like myself, who preferred to
remain anonymous. Newbie Sucksters treating us EBT folks as evil incarnate, when all we ever wanted was a place for serious spoiling and intellectual discourse
and fun without having to wade through all the sophomoric bullshit.
I couldn't tell you how I made it past the "little piggie" board. I'd been a Sucks lurker since season one and a poster starting in season two: My biggest claim to spoiling fame was the "Christian Coalition" theory that Tina and Colby would take Rodger and Liz to the end, which obviously proved at least partially flawed. Somebody (can't remember who) nominated me for membership, I was accepted, and a silly little message board suddenly became a major part of my life. Lifelong friendships were made, love affairs were sparked, drunken IRLs were arranged, and behind closed doors we laughed and chatted and spoiled and bonded over our mutual love of this-- and other-- stupid reality TV shows. Yes, many of us avoided the EZ board like the plague for the same reason I tend to avoid it now: You've got to sort through a lot of worthless BS to find anything of redeeming value. Sorry if that touches a nerve with any of you, but if it does then you're probably one of the idiots us EBT/ABT folks were trying to avoid. But MANY of us were all for opening up our membership to a broader spectrum of folks, and there are posters like TRho and Sardonically Irreverent who I've loved since the early days of Sweaty's and Chews and the like. But it's good to know that so many of us are still out there in the Splinterverse, and it's really great seeing so many of you guys in this thread. Much love! |

Modesty wrote: Thanks, I'll read that shortly. EOTT, thanks for that little shpiel. I must admit, I can definitely see why many of you old-timers left and no longer post much here. Especially since spoiling the show seemed to be the catalyst for all of this history, it's pretty much irrelevant now. We wait for the next Mersaydeez, the next ChillOne, the next mediawhore more interested in gaining notoriety for their insider knowledge than truly trying to pull one over on Mark Burnett, which seemed to be the fuel to the fire back in those days. In addition, I can DEFINITELY see how there is little to stay for at Sucks nowadays. Even the hardcore flaming at Sucks has become tame and...lame. If it
weren't for Lost and the fact that I feel a sense of loyalty to this shit hole and possibly even helping to dam the river of morons infesting this place, I
dunno why I'd stay here either.

Allow me to elaborate and fill in some blanks EOTT Of course the public board being referred to here is surviiivor.com. I and two others whom I will not name were solicited to build that board and we entered into the task with no knowledge of the plan for it to be revenue generating.I don't know where I expected the funding to run the bandwidth would come from - but I honestly did not understand that a certain set of people at the top were expecting not only board costs but revenue in their pocket as well. Once that came to light I bailed and after I confronted that "certain set of people at the top" my mod1 account was banned from surviiivor.com and I never returned. In any case the idea was not to sully or diminish the EBT brand name, it was in response to a possibility at the time of EZboard based sucks going away. A few things occurred which changed the course of thinking for a few people and as it happened this place flourished and has grown to become the stinking hellhole that it is today! In the end - whoodathunkit that Sucks cuisine would reign supreme! |

So basically EBT tried to put itself in a position to profit (literally) from the impending Sucks demise, only for it to hold strong?
What happened with the ezboard to cause this? And WHY did you change your nic, Mr. Slippery?! |

<<>> Let's be clear: ellipsiiis tried to put HERself in a position to profit, which was one of the primary catalysts (along with several other
shady moves on her part) for the "revolution" that created the ABT, in which I was a primary instigator. As Slip said, we as a group had no issue
with creating a public board wherein we would spoil publicly as well as continuing to spoil in private: Our issue was with the idea that ellipsiiis would
profit from the work 100+ others of us had done to create a community that many of us are still part of today, over 7 years later. And Slip, I never questioned
your motives, or that of any of the other mods or "Trevors." I thinkj we all knew the source of the shady, which was precisely why we kicked it/her
to the curb...

theeyeofthetiiiger wrote:Ah... the "little piggie" board. Strange days, those... After the shutdown of the original Planet Sucks board and exile of the Survivor Spoilers board to Sucks, I soon tired of the clutter at Sucks and found a home of sorts at an obscure little board called RealityRoxs where the board format and local denizens were more to my liking. It was there that someone from the germinal EBT noticed my posts, liked my analysis, and suggested I toss my name into the hat at the "little piggie" board and she championed my application for membership. Probably my biggest "claim to fame" in those early days was being one of the few, along with IceCat and a couple of others I can't recall at the moment, who argued that what was believed to be a tribal camp seen in the SurvivorMaps satellite images was actually the Tribal Council location. Somewhere I still have the annotated images I used to argue my point. For those of us not privy to the behind-the-scenes machinations and/or were too naive to grasp just what a bad image the Elliiipsians (what we often referred to ourselves as rather than the "Elps" term our detractors generally used) were perceived to have at Sucks, VotedOff, and other places. I was probably not the only one who didn't fully understand why there was so much hatred. The actions of loose cannons like Liquidstar and a few others was almost certainly at the root of much of it. |

Well, E and her chosen few (or maybe just one). She was also real bitch at the time who verbally attacked anyone who had a different idea. And she expected everyone to do all the grunt work and she (and her chosen few) got all the rewards. Of course, maybe she's completely different now. Married with kids and a nice job and living the American dream. It's been, what, eight years? People change. And as I look back on it now, we were so fucking dramatic about the "revolution". "I agree". Please. Another big thing with EBT and Sucks was when the EBT members who were playing an online version of Survivor used Sucks for a challenge. I think each was tribe was supposed to start a thread and whoever got the most posts in the thread won the challenge. Something like that. nyway, that didn't go over well from what I heard. I wasn't in the game (thank god - that was a mindfucking experience from what I heard) so I don't know all the details. I wonder if that geocities website is still out there. The other thing I remember from the whole thing is how paranoid everyone was about their real identity. Heaven forbid anyone should know someone's real name. Now as I read this thread, it seems so ridiculous to use names like EOTT, Griftd and Thumper instead of their real names. So stupid. It was partly the secrecy of the whole thing that brought out deranged idiots like Cygnuts. I would hope that eventually people would stop using nics on the web and just go by their real names. Facebook is a step in the right direction there. But you know what day I remember most at EBT? 9/11. EBT was the best source for information. I knew what was happening in DC before it was reported on the news. And since I was stuck at work without a TV, all of my information came from people posting info at EBT. Someone posted a link to a foreign news website that would actually load quickly because it wasn't being overloaded by the huge amounts of traffic on the normal news sites. That was a huge help. |

I'm enjoying this "coming clean" thread, especially those EBT/ABT peeps coming out to give their own perspectives.
I had no idea about any of the goings on in the board wars and sourced info and online contests. I was way, way late in joining the party. I didn't and still don't really care about any of that stuff. I liked the idea of spoiling the show and reading what people like Thumper had to say.
The first Survivor season I watched on cable TV in Thailand was Africa. When Survivor came to Thailand, I visited Koh Tarutao two weeks after filming ended. This may be sourced info, but it is info I immediately shared at Sucks and made public all I knew because spoiling was a pretty cool sport. I think I really only helped in pegging down the tribes.
I didn't get much (actually nothing except the Suk Jai tribe name and camp location for Suk Jai) because there was nobody there except the park rangers. I think the filming crew thought it was a hardship posting (and it probably was). They got the hell out of there as soon as possible.
The park was closed for the season (due to rough waters for six months of the year), but we paid a boat to take us to the island and the park rangers said that they would only help us if we came to their camp and asked for water and then they'd give us water only one glass at a time. So, a friend and I walked to the Suk Jai camp, got sunburned, ate from canned food, ran around naked on the Suk Jai beach and found a buried hatchet at the camp site (Jake later confirmed that it wasn't used by the Survivors). And, when we woke up in the morning to see snake tracks all around our tent, we also got the hell out of there. I hate snakes.
I'm totally worthless now and I've thought about helping sponsor new site spoilers. But, I'm not sure that it's as important now. I'm only posting because I think a lot of other people got into it for all the right reasons and good for them. |
