Thanks. Glad you liked the switch and the drama. I think each new tribe has lot of potential story lines within it, which is going to keep the story unpredictable. New Malakal definitely seems to have an advantage right now, so you might be rooting for the right tribe!

Why did Ruth Marie vote for Earl and why doesnt Aras try to make an aliance with Ami.

Ruth Marie voted for Earl because Tracy was afraid that she still couldn't trust Mikey, and if Mikey voted for Tracy, then Tracy would have been voted off 4-3 (with votes from Terry, Earl, Mikey, and Ruth Marie). Eliza said that just incase Mikey switches, they should bring in Ruth Marie to vote off Terry, which she agreed to, and everyone was told the final backup plan to vote Earl if Terry was immune, which is why she voted Earl.

The Favorites on Malakal have a false sense that they are sticking together, since the plan is to vote out Joel first, so in that regard, Aras and Ami ARE in an alliance, although it's a temporary one. The women are already thinking of getting rid of Aras after Joel, and Aras is already thinking of getting rid of Ami. So technically, they're in an alliance already but it's just not a very solid or long-term one.

Thanks for those Edgic ratings. If you don't mind, I'd like to offer a few comments and pointers to help out in the future with ratings.

The biggest thing I saw at a quick glance was that you gave out a little too many tones, which is a common thing for people who are just starting out. It might be a little tricky at first, but you should notice a clear intention for a character to be either positive or negative. So for example, Ruth Marie had only one question at Tribal Council, and there was nothing that would clearly make her negative, so she would probably be an UTR1.

You also gave Eliza a PP. This is reserved for very extreme circumstances, so it is rarely used. Think of when Stephenie was the last remaining member of Ulong. That was an example of a PP. Also, Mikey got a NN. I felt like this was probably his most neutral episode yet. Like PP, NN is reserved for very extreme circumstances like Judd's tirade against Margaret in Episode 6 of real Guatemala.

In terms of visibility, I'm not sure if you caught it for this episode, but I always post a chart after each episode that gives a visibility number for each contestant and it tends to be a good guideline. So for example, Alexis had 3 confessionals and was shown quite a bit more than someone who was just UTR1. According to the chart, he visibility would be a 3.

As a helpful guide to anyone else who's interested in learning a bit more about Edgic, I've typed up a brief summary of how it works:


A BRIEF SUMMARY OF EDGIC

There are three main components of Edgic:

1) RATING

- INV (Invisible): These are the characters that are completely absent from an episode. They have zero confessionals and zero Tribal Council questions, and they (usually) do not speak at all in any of the camp scenes. For example, in Episode 1 of my Micronesia, Chet and Ruth Marie were both INV because neither of them had a confessional or Tribal Council question, and both spoke only two sentences in the entire episode.

- UTR (Under the Radar): These are the characters who are given very little air time and very little development, they have few (if any) confessionals or Tribal Council questions, and they are very underutilized in the story. For example, someone like Natalie in the real Micronesia is UTR because she is barely ever shown.

- MOR (Middle of the Road): These are the characters who have more significant face time than UTR, but are not developed enough personalities to warrant a CP. They sortof have a mixture of all different types of edits. Characters who tend to be narrators usually end up with MOR, and the MOR rating can be a holding episode for characters who are usually CP, or for normally UTR characters who can't escape inclusion in the story (ie. going to Exile Island might be an instance of this). A good way to think of it is that the character was just "there" in the episode. It's a middle-ground.

- CP (Complex Personality): These are the characters who are well-developed into three-dimensional characters, whose thoughts, emotions, insights, etc. are presented to the audience. It usually involves strategy but it doesn't have to. These are the main players who shape the game, and it is their choices that are presented in the story. Therefore, when someone has an important choice to make or is a swing vote (ie. shows internal conflict), they are usually CP because they explain the thought-process over their decision. Jonathan Penner is a good example of a CP character (either in my fanfics or in the real show).

- OTT (Over the Top): These are the characters who are very simplified and one-dimensional. They are typically either the OTTP heroes or the OTTN villains, although sometimes there can be an OTT neutral. They tend to be a distraction from other players, especially if they are consistently OTT. This is why no winner has ever been fully OTT because that means they lack dimension and depth of character. An example of an OTTN character would be Judd, where Lydia in my fanfic was usually OTTP.

2) TONE

PP) Extremely positive. This is like Stephenie LaGrossa during the real Palau season.
P) Positive. If the character is edited in a positive light.
No rating Static neutral. No tone at all.
M) Dynamic Mixed neutral - If you think someone was noticeably Positive AND Negative within one episode. Sometimes there is a mix of different tones.
N) Negative. If the character is edited in a negative light.
NN) Extremely negative. This is like Judd during the Episode 6 Tribal Council in real Guatemala when he was yelling at Margaret.

3) VISIBILITY

This is rated on a scale from 1-5 (1 being the lowest and 5 being the highest), based on the character's overall presence in an episode. Visibility includes confessionals, speaking time, face time, second person visibility and tribal council questions (TCQ). Some of this is hard to rate in a written story so I post a visibility chart after each episode to give a general idea.

1) Low visibility.
2) Medium low visibility.
3) Average visibility.
4) Medium high visibility.
5) High visibility.

2nd ep. I didn't like that much, mainly because there wasn't any real drama in comparison to your other episodes, and all in all it was almost boring at times.

I was a bit surprised at first when people started saying this, but I can definitely understand it now. I always knew that it wouldn't be as good as Episode 3 or 4, but I didn't think it was that boring. I guess I just have a pattern of taking the first 2 episodes to set the stage for later.

3rd one then again clearly better, I felt like the first two episodes were about the same stars, and in 3rd one new players emerged ( Ami, Ruth Marie for example ). Also, it was once again surprising and tense unlike the previous one.

Glad you liked this one better. I also notice that with my stories - usually the first two episodes focus on the same people, and then by Episode 3 a few new people start to develop. I'm going to try and change that next season.

4th episode was my favourite of all the episodes I read now, it was definately good for the story that Aras/Terry/Eliza calmed down and we got some Ian, Earl or Natalie. Liked the way Natalie went, it was well written, and also I found the subplot of Sherea's clumsy attempt to throw challenge funny.

Good to see that this one was your favorite. I agree that it was nice to see some other characters. Glad you liked the way Natalie went and you liked Sherea's challenge-throwing attempt. I'll talk more about this in a minute.

Then about this episode. The beginning was a bit of a disappointment, for nobody really said anything about Sherea's challenge throwing but herself. The episode still turned out great, it was a perfect time for a twist and I liked the friction Aras-Ami as well as Tracy and Mikey's "forced alliance". And finally some Alexis too! The pre-TC strategy part was fun, but the TC itself GOLDEN! One of the bests you've written, the boot was definately the most unexpected yet and the TC worked out fine too. The rotating immunity twist has definately worked well this season.

Thanks for these comments. I didn't focus on the challenge-throwing because it was ultimately inconsequential. Yes, there was probably an argument or something about it, but it wouldn't have served to advance the story and this was also the longest episode yet. I even had to consider cutting out Sherea's content at the beginning of Malakal's scene and then she would have been INV1 probably in that case.

Glad you liked the episode and the switch - and the Tribal Council. As I said in my notes, I didn't think the Q & A was that great, but I definitely enjoyed the surprising outcome too.

Thanks for the comment about the rotating Immunity working out well. I was going to pose that question later on to see if it was a good idea. But I didn't want it to be pivotal in every single TC, so it's definitely not going to always be the target who gets Immunity because that would change things too much. But it still plays an important part in a few TCs coming up!

Ami: Why didn't you confront Aras publicly, rather than stepping back and accepting the dirt he threw on you?

There were six people in the shelter when this happened, and Ian was on Exile Island, so the only two people who weren't there for it were Kathy and Joel, who are the two most isolated from the tribe and probably might not even know about the argument. I thought Ami defended herself (maybe not as much as she should have), but the key thing was that Mary and Alexis were present and Aras was trying to make Ami look bad to them.

Ami - CPN4 ( Surprisingly enough, the fight with Aras actually made her look more negative even though Aras started it. I was also thinking of M but she never really tried to make herself look like something else than a man-hater. )

I'm also torn between M and N for both Ami and Aras, but I agree with Ami being CP and Aras only being MOR.

Earl - CP3

This is one I'm surprised by. I think he has four CPs and only two or three MORs right now. I didn't expect CP, really. I thought he'd just be a MOR3, but I guess CP is better??

Eliza - CP4 ( P? I think this episode it wasn't as clear that Terry's evil and Eliza's good, so I ended up with no tone. )

Next week will probably be more polarizing. I agree with neutral for both.

Ian - MOR2 ( Good complexity, yes, but I rather saw it as CP+UTR=MOR. Nice to hear more of him though. )

I agree with that assessment of him. He'll probably get a visibility 3 though.

Kathy - UTRP2 ( I thought the beginning was such a strong positive moment she should be P. But neutral is fine too. )

Glad to see she's still getting some Ps, but I think neutral is probably better for her this time.

Ruth Marie - UTR1 ( Too lazy to check if she got the TCQ, but I think she did? If not, then INV1. )

Yes, she had one TCQ, so UTR1 it is.

Sherea - UTR2 ( I would've hoped to see ep4 backfire her a bit. )

I agree it was a weird episode for him. I think he's going to end up with MOR2 based on the ratings, but I'm definitely surprised that he's gone two episodes in a row without a confessional. He'll be back next week, or this week I guess I should say.

Great job on both Edgic lists as well. Your thoughts next to each of them are all very good and seem to be pretty accurate if I was looking at the story from a reader perspective. I will be interested to see if any other contenders end up making it onto the list since it seems to be pretty much unanimous for those top four (which could be seen as both good and bad from my point of view).

I think he probably will end up getting the negative (I believe that's the majority with his submitted ratings right now), but Ami will likely end up getting mixed, which I think is accurate for both of their edits. That still might change though.

I liked this one a lot, actually. Very interesting post-swap dynamics. Earl was just...there. So I didn't see it as much of a loss. But I did like his relationship with Ian, so it will be interesting to see if Ian has any type of back-up plan. Also, and I can't believe I'm saying this, but I found Mary's confessional about being a saleswoman very interesting.

Tribal council. I didn't think Earl would have Terry be immune, but it does make sense for him to attempt to keep the dominant physical player. I also liked the Aras-Ami argument, as said by many people before.
