I think he's talking about the people auditioning as a whole. Much like Project Runway, as the show gains in popularity--and credibility--the better talent begins to come out. Thus, dancers who made it in Season Two (not withstanding Season 2's true talent like Benji/Travis, etc) quite likely wouldn't make it in Season Four--Claire got through to Vegas, but IMHO, I think it was because she'd shown potential before. I'm not sure she would have gotten the ticket had they not known her previously. Shauna was amazing <3! They should have showed her more!

He was techically amazing, clearly with lots of training and then in the choreo round he nailed that as well. The judges were clearly biast against him or should I say Nigel was and Mary/Dan just followed suit. There is no difference between his personality and the other male contemporary dancers we have seen except maybe the couple really masculine ones.. but most are flaming so whatever. I wonder what Mia would have said had she been there..would she have fought for him? He felt the music He had the talent. He was ROBBED. * Claire in a word sucked. She was very weak compared to the other dancers in her genre based on the audtions we have seen this year and the dancers from the previous 3 seasons. I really hope she does not make the Top 20 when we have seen a few cute blondes that are far superior. * I really loved that Italian girl who's G-Ma handed out snacks, the girl who danced to Alicia Keys and who's Aunt supports her completely and that black muscular contemporary dancer. I didn't get this. How does he learn her choreography on the spot? And doesn't that take time/focus away from his own audition? That was the weirdest thing, to me. Same thing I was thinking...if it was some random guy then how was he able to do her dance? If he's a partner ballroom dancer then did he abandon his partner and praciticing for his routine and spend all morining learning hers? What was her name..I want to say Chelsea or Courtney.

I totally understand what they were saying. The guy was all precision and no passion, no depth, no feeling to his dancing.... He was like a robot. He reminded me a lot of Danny from last year. Technically great but arrogant as hell and flat as a pancake personality-wise. And when I say passion and feeling.... it is the ABILITY to evoke feeling in the person who is watching....For example... there was a fellow on shortly before the military-garb-guy who's mom had died when he was 12... and while this guy was less "technical" he had a real flair that the other one was missing, and a real passion that came out when he moved.... I got goosebumps and I felt like I was going to start welling-up. I noticed the judges had similar reactions...Mary even commented on feeling emotional when she watched him. This is what dance should do....it should MOVE the viewer. Today, I can't even remember what the military guy looked liked, or what he danced. I can remember the fellow described above's dance (beautiful and haunting), the muscular-I lied-3-years-ago guy's dance (amazing and strong and captivating), There was a girl that I thought was fantastic, she danced with so much purpose, it was fierce and passionate and beautiful all at the same time...she was a red-head and her mom was a choreographer... oh wait that was Wednesday... but I guess that is my point.... the producers want people who can dance - technically - but also those who are memorable and stand out to the viewer. -- I didn't get this. Courtney sounds right to me... pretty blonde girl, black dress... I have to say I wasn't impressed in the least. During her routine, at some points where it looked like something exciting was going to happen, it always wound up going nowhere. For all the talk and hype about this girl, I expected a lot more from her. I guess having a baby took a lot of time away from her dancing. I also worry about her mental state; it looks like having a baby completely was a completely overwhelming experience and I'm not sure that she's fully recovered from it. I think she should've waited for at least another year before trying again. I completely agree about the panel's treatment of Anthony. I don't know if he was good enough to make the top 20, but I thought he was certainly good enough to go to Vegas. It looked as if the judges, especially Nigel have something personal against him with the way they attacked him. I completely agree with the Danny comparison. He was certainly a lot better than some of the people they put through, such as the beauty pageant queen, the BFFs from Utah, etc. Other standouts were Brandon, Courtney, the bioengineering major, BJ, the DC swing couple (although the last two didn't make it to Vegas), and the identical twins, who were so-so by themselves but amazing together.

And while he was very good technically, he didn't strike me as someone who would stand out in a crowd of equally technically proficient dancers Sure - they send through a LOT of people who are "unique" in their own genre, even though they're weak dancers outside of their comfort zone. And they also send through a lot of marginal dancers who provide audition-episode back-story fodder (jazzercise divorcee chicks...blech) but we know most of them get eliminated once they get to Vegas I didn't see anything in him that I didn't see in a bunch of the other not-featured-on-the-show dancers, who went to the choreography round and probably got eliminated And the whole Sybil thing he did with Cat was just freaky I dunno - I think the show set the bar to a new level last season. The first two seasons had good dancers, but many of them failed miserably outside their own genre. I remember being able to pick out the easy boot every week, because somebody was always gawd-awful with what they did Last season, they actually managed to pick 20 people who did reasonably well in all areas. Sure, they were better with some routines and not as good with others. But I don't remember there being anything that was completely painful to watch (and I just watched the marathon a couple of weeks ago, so it's still relatively fresh in my mind). There were a LOT of routines that were excruciatingly terrible in Seasons 1 & 2. I just hope they do as good a job in choosing the final 20 this year. And I really hope we see "I lied" guy in the Top 20. He totally gave me shivers Also liked the chick with the grandparents, the chick with the Aunt...and was embarrassed as hell by the T.O. dude's poser attitude And oddly enough, I actually hope Claire does better in Vegas. Yes, she sucked last night...but there's still something about her and the way she moves that's kinda compelling

I agree he's good enough for Vegas, but he didn't "WOW" me other than I thought he would be really bad but wasn't. BJ was amazing. I think, on a physical level, he's better than Mr. Fantastic. Some of those moves were superhuman. Too bad he couldn't handle the choreography. And too bad they didn't show more -- lots of really sick shit going on. I just didn't get the DC Swing thing. I thought that couple was boring -- slow, no tricks, and no charisma (especially the woman). Compare that routine to any of the WC Swing or Lindy Hoppers, and it pales in comparison.

Claire's first audition was FOR Season 2, so it happened before that excellent season with wonderful dancers. Both Season 2's and Season 3's top 20 raised the bar to the point that two things have happened: a) an overall better caliber of dancer auditions, now b) audience (and judges') expectations of what constitutes great dancing have gone up That being said, Claire deserves major kudus just for being able to get her smokin' hot body back after having a kid. Between her, the Italian chick with the grandparents, and the lied-about-his-age guy, there were some FINE-looking bodies on display last night. The girl whose aunt brought her to the audition, on the other hand, is another story. I couldn't believe she got the praise she got. Her body is so squat and oddly-proportioned (the girl's waist is wider than her hips!) that despite her obvious skill, none of her movement looked beautiful. Unlike a lithe, willowy dancer, she needs to compensate even more with her choreography and her extension in order to camouflage some of her deficiencies. I don't disagree with them putting her through, but they really should have given her some advice. I was thrilled, on the other hand, when they didn't put Anthony through. His dancing is SO cold and emotionless that I couldn't tolerate watching him week in and week out. Not that I'd have to, though. His personality is so revolting that even if he made the finals, he wouldn't get the votes to stay around. Remember, Nigel (and possibly Mary) have experience with this guy. He was a pissy little bitch three years ago, and he really hasn't changed much. People who complain about these judges don't seem to recognize that they take their cues from the dancer. They are nice to those who deserve it (think the swimming instructor girl who sucked but had a great personality) and mean to those who are assholes (think the tranny or the black girl with the Shirley Temple curls).

He was cut around the same time as the girl with cancer mom (Olivia Husey). So he went pretty far. Maybe he should just give up on SYTYCD the tv show. He was also on Carrie and Bruno's "Dance Wars" on ABC. He went pretty far but eventually got cut by Carrie and Bruno.

Plus, they'd never worked with Danny before, so they hoped he would grow during the show (which he did). Anthony made it to Vegas last year and he wasn't what they were looking for then and probably wasn't worth the spot this time around.

You take that as a reason why Anthony should have made it through. I take it as a reason Danny SHOULDN'T have... In all seriousness, I think Danny certainly did deserve to make it onto the show, but I don't think the judges should have saved him week after week after week when it went from top 20 to top 10. Danny kept ending up in the bottom 3 because he was such a cold and technical dancer. The audience spoke at that time and he should have gone home... 2) I didn't feel like Nigel has a personal problem with him and Mary/Dan followed suit. Again..I wish Mia was on that panel. I wonder what she would have said. Have any of the judges disagreed about anybody so far this year? From what I've seen, they've been pretty unanimous throughout...

He just wasn't fawning all over them and doing cartwheels when they said he was a good dancer. I always thought the arrogant label they tried to force on him was a little undeserved and was an effort to even the playing fields because was such a superior dancer.

I agree. I feel if they never showed the judges (damn Mia and Shane) saying that, no one would have called him arrogant. Maybe boring, but not arrogant. By the end of the year, though, he was anything but boring, since his personality came up more and more. Cat even seemed confused at the end (she said in her final interview that he was labeled as arrogant, and she didn't understand why).
