I'm somewhere in the middle. I don't expect ANTM alum to compete with real top models (to do that, it would have to be a competition of 14-year-olds),
but I'd like them to pretend a little bit better and stop casting old fugly bitches like Dominique who NEVERINAMILLIONYEARSONTHISORANYOTHERPLANET could
hope to be anything close to a "top model"...

Is there anything, other than maybe Tyra, that's stopping them from dropping the age limit to 16? There doesn't seem to be any problem with shows like
American Idol.

Dominique is uber sexy. I mean gosh, look at her. Those forehead wrinkles, those neck tendons, she's irresistable!

I do have a soft spot for her... but aren't models kind of supposed to make that soft spot hard? |

(in quality and/or quality) Freudian slip? Maybe even I don't believe what I'm saying. One of those should read "quantity". |

Um I'm pretty sure there doesn't need to be a guardian present or how could dumb shows like Kid Nation or Endurance take place? But I'm sure they
have to sign a release form and no nude shoot would be allowed. They should probably lower the age limit to sixteen and quit letting in hags like Domanique and
Marvita.

The kids were encouraged to stay in their huts while the adults sat around.

There's no reason why ANTM can't spring for another house for the parents of the younger girls.
Oh right, this is Tyra we're talking about. Nevermind. |

Yeah, legally these 16-year-olds would need to be tutored during the show. The reason it works in AusNTM is that (I'm pretty sure) the school leaving age
is 16 in Australia.

They couldn't do all of the "at home" storytelling if there were a bunch of parents around. You'd lose the stripping, the drunkenness, and
the big fights, at least. It works on Idol because their offstage life isn't a big part of the show. ANTM would have to be a different [better] show in
which they focused more on the MODELING and less on the domestic drama if they were to let minors compete.

Not only that but the show would shift from about the "models" and modeling (yes I am using both terms lightly) and more on the damn parents.

Kid Nation only got made because the state where it was filmed had some extremely permissive laws - which they immediately changed when they got wind the show
was made in their state.
I think the USA's child labor laws / children in film laws are too strict to make it feasible here. Australia might be more lenient. Which is really kind of ironic because I've read stories about 14-15 year old US girls getting sent overseas to model without their parents. They live in those model apartments with many others. That's got to be a million times more risky than being on a reality TV show. Still, I don't think kids can really consent to be on reality TV. They really cannot comprehend how it can change their lives. So, although it might make the show more realistic, I'm against it. I like my reality TV, but I'm not into ruining some kid's life for my entertainment. |

Don't know about the Brazilian and Eastern European counterparts. |
