First of all, I think the problem isn't necessarily theme weeks is that it's BAD theme weeks...And I think it's better idea to go my general
with your theme week.. .For examp, Country music week rather than Dolly Parton week....And two weeks of Beatles was ridiculous. Although I might not mind
another Queen week.
I say no to 14 year olds on this show..I think age 16 is really old enough, for this show.
Get rid of the cheesy coronation songs.. Honestly I feel bad that Time of My Life will introduce Non Idol fans to Cook.
Perhaps though they can keep their songwriting context (sort of) and have an original song contest, where the contestants can either sing their own song, or
sing songs that were made available...(or singned over to them) and then the winner's original song will be the new single.
Honestly, though I don't like the idea of getting rid of the instruments. IMO Cook was the best thing about this show because you always wondered what
he'd show up with.. Get rid of instruments and it gets more boring...

Instruments must stay. It's a step in the right direction.
If they insist on doing theme nights during the semis, they should be really generic. Do "Acoustic Night", "Full Band Night" and "Piano or Guitar" only night. They can sing whatever they want still. Have a 90's theme. No 2 weeks of the same theme even if it is the Beatles. Get rid of the crappy cornation song. At least don't release it to radio. If they want a cheesy song to be sung after someone wins, let them sing it and be done with it. Nobody wants to hear about "magic rainbows" on the radio. Or let the contestants write their own cornation song. Please no 14 year olds. |

The '90s had hundreds of memorable songs. VH-1 had a four-hour countdown that only scraped the surface. Imagine the delights of someone having to sing
"Loser" after being eliminated!
Also, no way are 14-year-olds able to handle the pressures of American Idol. Not even 16-year-olds can. If anything, they should raise the age limit back up to 18. |

Get rid of themes in the semis. It's the best way to see who the contestants are musically and what type of musical style they'll most likely have
should they have a career.
Less filler, more performances in the finale. Get rid of the skits that are nothing but filler and take up too much time (The Love Guru and the Gladys Knight skit). I would also have each of the finalists perform an individual song at least once, sort of like the DTWS finale when they had the celebrities do at least one dance. Pretty much everything else I want to change has been said already. Oh, and I completely agree on not having 14 year olds. If anything they should raise the age limit, not lower it. I'm on board with raising the minimum age limit to 18. |

I strongly agree with abolishing theme nights (unless it was Monty Python theme night or something, in that case its OK), bringing back the wildcard round, way
less audition footage, and raising the age limit

Get rid of mosh pit.
Get rid of viewer call ins. No mentors who are releasing an album or plugging a tour. No back to back same theme weeks. Get Randy a thesaurus. Ban the judges from rehearsals. More Hollywood week so we learn about all of the top 24. No commercial plugs for movies etc., during the shows, especially the finale. No double elimination nights. No talking about Simon's nipples. Just, ew. Always have an acoustic night. Better camera angles, better and more consistant sound. Quieter back up singers. Shorter segments on crazy auditioners. Songs can be up to 2 minutes vs. the current 90 secs when they get to top 10. Add some behind the scenes segments. Change the voting to limit # votes per phone. |

Lowering the age limit will further deteriorate AI. Up it back to 18.
Please, no full on performances by previous finalists on finale night. There is usually a good reason why they're gone. If you don't want to hear them sing when they get voted off, then don't have them sing again in the finale. I don't know that instruments really added anything this year. It's not like there were grinding guitar solos and piano concertos. Okay, we get you can play a few chords. It's.a.singing.competition. If you sing better sitting at a piano, then maybe this contest isn't for you. |

I'd like to see more hollywood footage. I love the hollywood rounds, so much drama. It makes us love or hate certain contestants (Julia Vs Kim)
Also, going back to how they put in contestants in the finals the first years, with small groups performing and the contestants being voted in, and let them sing whatever they want for those rounds. |

Lots of great suggestions, especially from Starburst05 and OnlyTheHunter. Here's some practical ones I think are most important:
. GET RID OF THE FUCKING USELESS 'CHAIR' EPISODE!!! . Raise the minimum age to 18. No more Jeff Archuletas. . Keep the instruments and the current semifinal format. Keep the current Hollywood format (no more groups, free pass to everybody the first day). The old format got too many good people eliminated. . Give the contestants 2 minutes to sing in every show instead of 90 seconds (2 1/2 when they get down to 8 songs or less). Getting rid of filler shit like Ryan's interviews will EASILY free up all the time they need. Do 90 minute shows if needed (like if there are 10 contestants). . Cut down on terrible auditions. Keep only the most memorably awful ones (they WERE a little better about that this year). Continue the trend of NOT giving a 5 minute buildup to a terrible audition. If possible, show the auditions of all 24 people in the top 24. If their audition songs can't be cleared, make sure to show them singing in the Hollywood rounds for more than a few seconds. Don't show us people who were great and made it to Hollywood and then are never seen again (it drives me crazy). Have shorter auditions, more Hollywood week (two 2 hours nights would be fine). . Make all results shows 30 minutes except the finale. . Loosen up on song choice. The fiascos with Garrett and Alexandrea being forced to do a certain song were totally unnecesary. . Make at least one week SOMEWHAT contemporary (i.e. hits of the current decade would still allow anything from 2000 and up). . It wasn't a real problem this year, but don't let contestants fuck with a theme and do whatever they want (i.e. Taylor doing a Beatles song on current chart hits night). . No more bullshit on results night, especially the top 7 choose your group crap. If it's a boot everybody expected, so be it. Enough boots are suprises anyway. . Do whatever is needed to try to improve Randy and Paula's current useless judging (a thesaurus, detox, threatened firing, etc). |

2. No more country theme nights 3. No more Beatles nights. Ever. I still can't believe they did that 2 weeks in a row. 4. Get rid of Randy 5. No more mosh pit 6. Have a Billboard #1's theme again 7. Only have theme nights that are limited to a specific artist if that person has genre-hopped in their career. Such as Cher who has done folk, 70's, 80's rock, dance, pop, etc, NOT someone like Mariah Carey who basically does only one type of song 8. Have a theme night called "Uptempo Songs". The ballads over and over get old. |
