I think you are confusing the shape of a "circle" with a "figure 8". Contestant A starts on the outside of the "8" contestant B
starts on the inside of the "8". The track criss crosses so inevitably contestant B ends up on the outside of the "8" and contestant A ends
up on the inside of the "8".
