Auditions - Less audition episodes. The first couple of weeks can get unbearable at times. After 7 seasons now, it's getting a little old. There will always be those special moments, such as Paula's stalker and "I am Your Brother." However, so many weeks is too much. They can easily do a couple episodes of good auditions, a couple bad, and then show some during Hollywood (like they did with David Hernandez before his first Hollywood performance).
Hollywood - More please. This is when we're really supposed to be getting to know the contestants. I'm going to throw out again that I'd like to see every top 24 contestant at least once. Even if it's a flashback during the chair episode, that's fine. Also, since they're now doing themes in the semis, this may be the only chance to hear someone sing in his/her specialty. I actually ended up liking what they did this year. It's nice that one bad audition won't send you home. For cruelty, I think that those who receive a "no" after their first audition should have to sing for their lives. However, it should have to be done in a group performance.
Voting - This is the one thing that I know will never change. They were probably positively giddy about the 97.5 million votes. I'm interested, though, to see if there would be any differences if they limited the votes, like Dancing with the Stars. I wonder what would happen if they limited it to 10 votes per phone/household, and 10 votes online.
I mean, I figured Cook had it in the bag the night of the final 4. Typically, Arch had been leading on DialIdol by a lot early on. When he bombed during the final 12, he was still leading by two times the second place person. I remember David Cook was on top when he did Billie Jean, but he had the pimp spot. Arch only seemed to not be first when he was towards the beginning. On final 4 night, Arch had the pimp spot, but Cook was still cruising. Was the performance episode really necessary on Tuesday? I know this board has been much more pro-Cook and anti-Arch, but most of what I read or when I talked to people, I would see/hear "I want David Cook to win, but based on vocal performance (on Tuesday), Arch will win." It says something when a lot of people think one person did better, but he still loses by 12 million votes. It's always going to be popularity and talent. And, after a while, the fanbases are set. I wonder if it would be different otherwise.
What would you like to see changed next season?
