It doesn't matter who releases first. It's all about sale numbers. Archie releasing first doesn't affect Cook's album in
the least since their music style is completely different as is the fan base. It's more important to cut a great album than being first to release.
To many idols have been manhandled by the AI producers and released less than quality albums. To many cuts on these CDs sounding like the others. At least with Cook it will be hard to release an album like that as long as he gets a say in it. If Cook's producers simply released the twenty or so songs as he performed them on Idol (the full versions of course) it would be a kick ass first CD. Archie's first CD and every CD afterward will be nothing but the slow methodical songs which will be sung exactly like the original cut. Fans won't purchase to much of that when they can get the real thing. This kid has a wonderful voice, but he isn't as music/performance oriented as David Cook. His father and producers will have much more say in how his music career is handled and what songs he sings and how he sings them. Archuleta never stepped outside the box during the Idol season and never took chances with a song. |

None of the others will have success. You must not listen to current pop radio; this is the perfect time for artists like Jason and Brooke to emerge. NOT Archuleta. |

i have to say, i'm so excited for cook's album to come out - no doubt i'm going to buy it. but i have to say, i'm really curious about
archie's career and what the heck HIS album is going to sound like. he's such a strange boy. i'd bet money that his album tries to be R&B,
though.

I can see quite a few contestants from this year having success based on their genre. With the right music I think besides Cook and Archie, Brooke, Kristy,
Michael and even Jason could do quite well.
Archie I think will be successful but not because his music will be particularly good or b/c he sings a popular genre. I cannot deny his talent as a singer. I do not enjoy listening to him and I find him boring, but he's talented. However I don't see him having long term success. IMO he's too young to be a successful adult contemporary artist. It's not the right time for him, I don't think he'll be able to evolve and continue to appeal to people as he gets older. I think his first CD will be successful thanks to his tween/teen/granny fanbase who wants to listen to him sing ballads and cheese. After that though I think he'll fade. I don't see him being that Josh Groban type of adult contemporary singer. ETA: Jive is Jordin's label so I'm scared they'll try and turn Archie into an R&B type. It worked for Jordin, it won't work for Archie, just like "With You" did not work. |

^ I agree with what fcuk said, and think Cook is radio friendly too. Kristy could be a hit in the country market. How they produce Archie's CD and with
what kind of material/style will be interesting.
I agree also w/BlackCrimson. While fundamentally I feel the winner should get to release a CD first, in the end it's better to have a better produced CD than something thrown together just to get something out there. I am pretty confident that when Cook's CD is released, it will do really well in sales and radio airplay. |

Archie's CD will be "forgettable" like Taylor Hicks first album. Nice tunes, but nothing memorable.

The thing about Archie's though is that I'm not exactly sure what will be on it and will at least check it out but probably won't buy it unless
I'm pleasantly surprised. Taylor sucked and I didn't even bother with him but did buy Daughtry's and Elliot's albums and went to see Daughtry
and Mandisa (
 ) in concert.

Archie's album would be better and more fun if he was divalicious like he was on Star Search. It would never happen but it would be more entertaining if he did. |

Archuleta has said he cites musicians like John Mayer, Sara Barelias, and Natasha Bedingfield as big influences. So he is going to be mainstream pop.

From watching all these "behind the scene" videos of archie and cook in the days before the finale, i got this weird feeling that archie actually has
bad self-esteem. he's very self-depricating and i feel like it's pretty real. it honestly felt like he didn't think he was as good as cook and i
totally got that vibe last night when they were waiting for the decision on the stage. i felt like he KNEW he wasn't going to win? anyway, maybe i'm
just imagining it, but it kind of makes me feel sad for him as i think his evil dad beats him down mentally on a regular basis....

Er, I guess I don't know jack about this kind of thing, but wouldn't it be BETTER for Cook to release his album later than Archie's? I agree with
seaguy that it'd be better for them to actually take time on Cook's album and make it good. Quality over quantity, people.

I would just enjoy having Cook's full cuts from what he performed through season seven of Idol. What a great album it would be for the fans. Even his
ZZTop performance in the finale was hot. Cook's CD should be interesting.

It's a shame Archuleta couldn't do this when he was 18, on his own terms and once he had matured more. He needs to mature more as a person and a
singer. He needs to find himself musically. He clearly loves music but I think he knows which direction he'd like to go in yet, and he won't be allowed
to decide now.
I feel like his dad pushed him into this and he's not 100% ready no matter how talented he is or how much he loves music. |

David Cook's album - you already know you're probably going to like it and therefore you'll buy it. David Archuleta's album? I think there's going to be a TON of interest around it simply because he showed no distinctive, artistic style during the show, but everyone knows he's got a good voice. The speculation will be crazy. |

I predict Archuleta will have a few hit songs.. only because he is popular, not because the songs will actually be good.
Cook is either hit or miss, his fans will buy his album... but if he wants to go mainstream rock, he'll be fighting a tough battle. |

I dunno about Archie. I'm hopeful (and perhaps idiotically so) that with new influences (read: not his dad, etc.) he might be able to branch out. His voice
is fantastic. He just needs to find out who he is and maybe producing a record will help with that. I'm going to reserve judgment until I hear something.
From everything I've seen this week, he's a great kid. Pemmie, I think you nailed it re: his self-esteem. And dare I say, that coming in second might
be the best thing for him? The limelight of winning likely would have further freaked him out. Now he gets the bennies of winning with less of a circus.
