David Archuleta signs with JIVE, David Cook signs with RCA |
Lead | |
|
IDOL AFTERMATH: Richard Palmese's J/RCA Music Group promo team are already on the case working the debut single from last night's Idol winner David
Cook, "Time of My Life," which is being delivered to radio as we speak. Meanwhile, runner-up David Archuleta will join the Jive label for his album
debut, coming sometimes this summer. Going against tradition, a single from the second place finisher will not be released until close to the full-length
release date. (5/22p)

I just read this. Some people on the scary boards are questioning Archuleta's release date. The winner usually releases their album in November so for
Archuleta's album to be released this summer during the tour is suspect. He should not be allowed to released his album before David Cook imo.
As for what the scaries are questioning. They think plans were already in motion for Archuleta to be signed and he already has a whole album or part of an album recorded (when would he have time to record a whole album and have it released during the tour otherwise is the argument) and that they just put him on AI to build up a fanbase. They think he was a ringer from day 1 and not a real contestant. Thoughts anyone? |

Never got that vibe from him, but I wouldn't put anything past the producers of this show.
Also I totally agree that Cook as winner should release his album first. |

I think this means Archie's single will get released in the summer. Just like Jordin released Tattoo in August. I highly doubt his album is recorded and
ready to go. Cook should release his album first or there's no point in winning.

They probably have all the songs written for him. Wasn't there something that since his Imagine performance that he was getting songs then?

Yeah I hope the info is a little muffled and he is only releasing a single in the summer, not his album.
There's no way in hell he should be allowed to release his album before the winner. Just like everyone else the 2nd place contestant lost and should have to wait for the winner to go first just like everyone else. It's a perk to winning and it should not be taken away. I don't wish failure on Archuleta but I'll be really pissed off if I find out anything rotten was going on behind the scenes and there has been plans for Archuleta's CD in the works since before the competition even began and he was just a ringer. At this point I don't believe that's true though. |

Maybe I'm not savvy re the record biz, but what does it really matter if DA releases an album first? Personally, I wouldn't ever buy a DA album, and
while I can't wait for Cook's I have no problem waiting until he has what he thinks he needs to make it a success. What don't I know about album
release order because I don't see the problem?

I agree, Mikiboi. Now that the competiton is over and the man I believed should win did so, I'll be open to hearing both of their albums and if I likey,
I'll buyee.

Don't get too excited about Cook's album. He working with Ryan Tedder, Dianne Warren, etc. - the usual AI hacks.

I can't believe they'd be stupid enough to pull a Bo on Cookie. Oh, wait, this is AI we're talking about.
The Real Thing stunk (stank?) and I only bought it to help him out. Bet I only listened to it twice. |

My only thing about DC getting to release his album first is that he won the competition. What is the point of winning the competition if you don't even
get to release your album first. You got chosen. People liked Archuleta to and he earned second and deserves a record contract, but he should not get to put
his product out there first.
He working with Ryan Tedder, Dianne Warren, etc. - the usual AI hacks. You may think Ryan Tedder is "the usual AI hack" but facts are facts. He clearly knows how to craft a hit. He's very talented and popular. I'm glad he's working with Cook. I don't know if you've listening to David Cook's solo album Analog Heart or OneRepublic's album "Dreaming Out Loud" but the styles are quite similar. Cook's is a bit edgier with more electric but the songwriting and the sound of their style of music isn't totally opposite. Cook and Tedder writing music together should produce an excellent product.

Ryan Tedder can write good pop songs but he also co-wrote Blake Lewis's album. Plus what kind of a rocker, works with the guy that writes for Leona
Lewis???

I don't know much about Tedder, but isn't he more of pop writer than rock? He wrote one of the songs on Clay's new album and I really love it but
it's definitely pop-ballady.

If Cook can make that cheesy coronation song sound good he will work his voodoo on whatever they throw his way for the first album. It may not define him as
an artist, but if it's successful he will be able to do something on his own soon enough.

I don't mind who releases when, as long as I get both c.d.'s. I wish it was Cookie=summer and Archie=fall release to be honest but meh.

I didn't realize Tedder also wrote for Clay. He and Cook are a perfect match then.

I mind a lot, Cook won, he should get to release his CD first. If Archuleta won I'd feel the same way. It's a perk of being a winner.
Okay and I have a question has anyone listened to OneRepublic's album? Ryan Tedder is very talented. Yes he's written songs for Pop acts, but that's what he does, he's a songwriter. I think he will work very well with Cook and I think Cook fans should listen to Dreaming Out Loud (OneRepublic's album) and then form an opinion. Also compare it to Analog Heart. It has less of a rock edge, but it's not a polar opposite. I think Ryan will be able to write very well for Cook's style. |

What would it matter whose album is released first? Shouldn't it all just come down to which one is better?
Seriously, you eggheads are just as bad as the Archuleta fans if not worse. |

Clay's first album came out before Ruben's, but only because it was finished by October and Ruben's was not. He was fine with it, or at least
pretended to be.
I'm pretty sure his fans were pissed, though, not that I really blame them. |

How are Archuleta fans having the last laugh? They both got signed. What's to laugh about?
