Well now that we have the best.Idol.ever, I am curious how he ranks with everybody with the Idols from seasons past and how little David ranks with the
runners up. Here are my humble rankings:
WINNERS
1. David Cook - pitch perfect rocker, innovative, sexy and from my hometown. Who could ask for anything more?
2. Kelly - power pop and usually flawless. Great songwriter. I have all her CDs but the first.
Gap (this is a bit more difficult, because the above are the only two winners I have liked)
3. Taylor - loved his voice, but his style of music wasn't entirely to my liking. Don't really like blue-eyed soul. But he was fun to watch.
4. Carrie - I found her overrated and pitchy. I didn't care for her on the show, but I do like her post-Idol career. Her music is more catchy and fun
than I expected from her, and more raw. I thought that she would go the sweet innocent country girl route, but she surprised me. FABULOUS legs too.
5. Jordin - bores me. Sounds like any other R&B artist on the radio. Plus, I was mad that she beat out the-much-more-deserving Melinda for the title. I
find her song "No Air" to be a hot mess. But her Super Bowl rendition of the National Anthem was surprisingly good. And her "I Who Have
Nothing" was nothing short of show-stopping amazing.
BIG GAP
6. Fantasia - While she was flawlessly in tune, I didn't care for her tone and I really never liked her music. Too screechy. And her new song - no. just.
no.
7. Reuben - the original Archuleta. Was only good on sleepy ballads, and bored me to death.
RUNNERS UP
1. Clay - Yeah, he was also the original Archuleta. Sleepy ballads, couldn't do uptempo effectively. However, the tone of his voice was beautiful,
unique and pure. I was a Claytard from his very first audition.
2. Blake - loved that he was different, and did well with the straight singing as well as the beat-boxing thing. Liked the fact that he tended more towards
alternative bands such as Keen and 311. His ballads had more of the lush stylings of those bands then straight and boring. And I have to admit that I love his
new song - it is such an 80's throwback!
3. Justin - I didn't find him as sucky as others do. He had some really good performances, like "Let's Stay Together." Great voice too,
but a bit pitchy at times.
4. Bo - incredible voice. His accappella performance is an unforgettable standout. Never a wrong note. The only reason I don't rank him higher is that I
really, really hate the Allman Brothers and Lynard Skynard, and that is what his style of music is. The only southern rock I can stomach is 38 Special and ZZ
Top.
5. Little David - perfect voice, I will give him that. But talk about no versatility or originality. But, at 17, he is just a baby really. He will
hopefully mature and be able to gain some stage presence and versatility as time goes on.
6. Katherine - screeched too much, and a really stuck-up attitude that has only gotten worse since the show ended - even though she has no reason to be
stuck-up now, considering her success or lack thereof.
HUGE GAP
7. Diana. The.worst.final.two.contestant.ever. She was a bottom-three queen for a reason. Every other note was out of tune, and her high notes sounded like
she was on helium. That she beat out LaToya and Jennifer Hudson was a travesty. Only other person worse than her, IMHO, was John Stevens.
