I don't think Tommy's drinking would make up for all the weird shit that's been going on. I think every character and aspect of this show has been
fucked all season. I'm hoping that the whole thing has been some kind of bad dream and that Tommy is really in the hospital recovering from the fire that
Sheila started at the end of season 3.

What happened to this show?
It used to be a good show, but now the whole thing just revolves around one single theme, and I'm not even sure what the fuck that could be. What happened? |

Season finale tonight, correct? We'll see how this turns out. |

Blech. Well, that season was a whole lot of nothing. Worst season of a show since Season 3a of LOST. Tommy's dad died. Big deal. That fucker looked
like he's been knocking on death's door since season 1.

I have to agree that this season was off compared to the others but I still enjoy the show. Lou gives the "baseball is like life" speech and then
boom... Tommy's Dad died! I was caught off guard and didn't see it coming. But I thought it was tender how Tommy just put his arm around his Dad and
hugged him. Loved the crazy Shelia attack too. Maybe that's what we've been missing this season... not enough Crazy Shelia!

I thought the finale was great!! His dad dying was like a sucker punch. Lou's baseball analogy, the chief writing a section 8 on Tommy, Sheila freaking
out, Franco letting Richie get married...I have hope it'll be back to good next season.

I think this was my favorite season, every year we get into some heavy shit and it gets a little weird. (Deaf daughter, Jesus, dead son, fun with rape) This
was the season where I think we got a lot of closure and we got to see many of these characters grow and develope. Ofcourse the other reason was the awesome
guest stars, Eva Mendes and Artie Lang made this season. I just really hope Tatum O'neal shows up many times next season.

Couldn't disagree more.
I know Tommy and his immediate family will always be fucked up on some level, but I thought the whole post-partum depression storyline was badly done. Janet is cunty enough to be a complete bitch about her baby. But I thought it was ridiculous that Tommy (a firefighter, one previously haunted by dead people, including his son) would even CONSIDER killing the baby - especially when he hasn't been drinking, and there would be no way in hell that he'd give the baby to Sheila's crazy ass. The "resolution" of last season's cliffhanger was poorly done. I really was hoping that the whole sesaon would prove to be some coma-induced dream that would explain everything (including Tommy's teetotaling, his pussification and all the shit that seems to surround not only him, but his family and friends). There were some funny moments with the Gavin family o' drunks, but they shortchanged us at the end and didn't even let us see the fight in the classroom. I love how they just "Judy Winslow'd" Tommy's other brother, Timo, who didn't even show up for any of the funerals. And I thought it was really stupid that there was no correlation between the Gavins and their alcohol issues and the untimely death of Johnny (not to mention, the rather fucked up scenario of Janet boinking both Tommy and Johnny). They didn't even give a fuck about the new baby Gavin. Not even his cousin. Hell, I think that whole storyline was created to give Burke more airtime. Franco's story was so contrived. He's getting in good with his new gal and suddenly the cougar and his daughter show up. After proposing to his girlfriend, she inexplicably pushes him away to get with some douchebag, while dumping her brother off on Franco (who accepts it all in the hopes that this indecisive harpy will make him her hen-pecked bitch). And then there's Lou's completely pointless storyline about his brother and a fat, black woman who makes his cock and his stomach sing. How fun. And what of Probie? The guy almost kills himself and after one encounter with SuperTommy, he's back to being a device in the Tommy vs. Black Sean storyline that essentially has no meat. I thought they were going to go somewhere after that one rescue where they both impressed each other, but that fizzled and now we have Black Sean moving in on Tommy's bratty (although legal) daughter. Black Sean obviously has his assholish ways (as all the characters do), but suddenly they're making him to be some perverted cretin. And don't even get me started on the new chief and his crazy daughter. What happened to the old chief? Where's the fallout from his suicide? If any of the other main firemen characters get killed in the future, I guess we can expect maybe 1/2 an episode to wrap things up and it'll be back to Tommy's drama. I've always liked RESCUE ME because it's funny, irreverent, gritty, emotional yet still well-acted and well-written. And despite the crappiness of this season, it's still one of the best dramas on TV. Moreover, most of the best shows on TV have a less-than-stellar season, so I'm not writing this show off. I'm glad that there will be at least one more season that holds the chance to correct all the missteps from this season. Some great shows (DEADWOOD) never got the chance. |

FX orders fifth season of 'Rescue'Production begins next spring on Leary show
FX has sounded the alarm for a fifth season of "Rescue Me," picking up 22 episodes of the Denis Leary drama. Production begins early next year on the season, which the cabler will split into two cycles. Leary, Peter Tolan and Jim Serpico are back as executive producer-showrunners; the series' cast is back intact as well. "The show has been a great source of pride to FX and remains one of the cornerstones of our respected brand of original series," said FX Networks president/general manager John Landgraf. "Rescue Me," which comes from Sony Pictures TV, DreamWorks TV and Leary's Apostle shingle, has been one of FX's top-rated skeins, averaging a cumed audience of 3.2 million adults 18-49 and 4.8 million total viewers with its four weekly telecasts combined. Sony Pictures TV co-prexy of programming and production Jamie Erlicht said having all three producers back for the show's fifth season was "key." "Their vision and execution are what make this show a success," Erlicht said. Leary scored an Emmy nom this year (his second consecutive) for his portrayal of tortured firefighter Tommy Gavin. Show, which centers on the relationships among the crew of 62 Truck, also stars Michael Lombardi, Tatum O'Neal, Steven Pasquale, Andrea Roth, John Scurti, Daniel Sunjata and Callie Thorne. "Rescue Me's" fifth season is the first 22-episode order for the show, which until now has produced a cable standard 13 episodes per year. "Now I can finally buy the pool I've always wanted," said Serpico, who also serves as president of Apostle. "Or at least the foundation for that pool." "Rescue Me," which bowed in July 2004, has also been nommed for an Emmy in drama series writing and drama directing, both in 2005. Meanwhile, no word yet from FX on the fate of "Damages," the recently concluded thriller starring Glenn Close. Insiders, however, believe word on whether a second season will be ordered is imminent. |

That's great news!
I'm very nervous about Damages, though. I think if they were planning on renewing it they would have announced it by now. The fact that they haven't makes me think they're leaning towards cancellation. I really hope I'm wrong, though. |

I'm nervous for DAMAGES too.
They'd better come on with the come on on RESCUE ME next year. 22 episodes? I don't like that actually. One reason why cable series tend to be vastly superior to regular TV series is the shorter seasons which usually mean more focused storylines. If I only have 13 episodes to tell a story (as opposed to 22), I'm gonna get to the point. |

Well it seems like they only had a handful of episodes last season and it sucked big ones. Everybody just needs to jump off the wagon.

From MediaDaily News:
Forced to skip the show's 2008 season due to the writers' strike, FX will air a series of "Rescue Me" "minisodes" this summer as a bridge. The run of 10 five-minute shorts will air weekly starting in June. The gripping drama's fifth season was scheduled for this summer. But with the strike postponing production, the network opted to hold all 22 episodes it had ordered until next year, when they will air straight through. |

I'm pissed at FX for not airing any new shows this summer, but I can't be too pissed at them since they did renew Damages for 2 more seasons.
Not happy about having to wait until September for The Shield, though. |
