I started out not even liking David Cook even a little bit, and being bound and determined to not vote after Danny Noriega and David Hernandez left so early (ewww...just call me Paula!), to voting for three and a half hours last night and every spare bit of time here at work today checking fan sites, news sites, predictions, etc. So obviously I care after all.
His third song and his breaking down at the end of it didn't seem scripted or silly to me. I took it that, between the stress of the competition, worry over his brother, and the way that the mentor (whichever one it was...Clive or ALW) told him to carry the note as if it was ripping his soul, it was just too much for him. I felt for the guy, and usually ANY man who wears one of those stupid ass chains on his pants is dead to me. I guess I've become enough of a fan of DC's to overlook that one.
I hope he wins. DA was too one note for me all season long, and was never called on it. Even Clay got called out for making everything a slow, ballady type of song. Archuletta? Not once. I don't find DA's voice all that unpleasant, although I do find his "Aw, shucks" personality more affected than sincere. But ultimately, I think he is a vocal performer and nothing more. And while that may be one of the things that sells music, it can't be the only thing. I want someone with a little substance, not just style.
Hoping for a miracle here in Missouri...hoping like hell that they can't find any reasonable way...or even an unreasonable one...to swing it David Archuletta's way. Because David Cook is the one who deserves this the most, IMO. For taking risks with his songs, for being a pretty decent guy and a good, well rounded performer, and for so many more reasons. Go, DC!!
