Asking people if their refrigerator is running can keep 10 year old boys laughing for hours.

When I was a kid my best friend and I used to call this poor girl who's last name was Grossman, and we'd go "Ewwww gross, man!" and hang up
and bust out laughing. It was beyond retarded, I know.

We've been getting these crank calls at my job from some lady in a mental hospital for the past month. I have no idea why she decided our office was her favorite target. She calls repeatedly, and rarely says more than, "Hiiiiii Toootie! How's your boooty? Your boooty smells...(slobbergruntslobber)" and then she hangs up. I like her. She's fun. |

Back in the day (stone ages), a local radio station (KILT) use to do this contest, where they'd call your home, and if you answered your phone with
"KILT is gonna make me rich" then you'd win money. We use to pretend we were the DJs and whoever answered the phone had really screwed up by not
answering correctly. Sometimes we'd call the same person over and over and berate them, until they finally answered properly.

Not a crank call per se, but back in college I had this brilliant idea to call a number I knew had been changed, and record the message as my own outgoing
answering machine greeting. So you called our number and you got the operator telling you that you called a different number, and that that number had been
changed to yet another number. Ha Ha. Confused a few friends, chuckle chuckle. So my Dad calls, but doesn't catch on, calls the phone company, THEY call,
and don't catch on, and I pick up later in the day to hear a guy who sounds like every paranoid Hollywood scientist conspiracy twerp EVER, going on about
crossed lines and a possible breakdown of the system and how he had advised so-and-so this could happen, on and on. We ended up getting three more calls, from
increasingly higher-up people in the company, nobody ever suggested I had faked it, they just apologized and were generally very freaked out. It was funny but
pretty weird. I kept thinking about that episode of WKRP in Cinci where Johnny's convinced the phone cops are after him.

Ah, prank phone calls. Those were the days. Caller ID, darn you!
In middle school we used to call random numbers and pretend to be pollsters from CNN. More than you'd think believed us, although I remember one woman saying "How old are you??" and my friend replying "I'm 19 ma'am" (he really was 13 or so) and the lady saying "I don't think so!!" and hanging up). Anyway, we'd start out with normal questions like who will you vote for in the election, and then proceeded to more and more bizarre questions like what is your favorite color (this was also during our Monty Python period), how often do you pass gas in public, until finally they'd realize what was going on and would hang up on us. Oh yes, we were rebels, we were! |

When we were kids, I got my sister to prank call the Operator.
That didn't end well. |

I made up a message on my answering machine that kept saying "Hello? Hello? I can't hear you? Is anybody there? Hello?" and found a message from
my pissed-off father who was initially fooled and thought I was on the line. LOL

Someone prank called my dorm room freshman year with recording of Arnold Schwarzenegger's voice saying "Who is your daddy and what does he do?" I
think I'm like, haha, funny. Anyway, someone finds a file on the network with my name as the title, and it's the prank call. Lame.
A year later, they started giving people tickets that prank called dorm rooms. |
