Excellent, balanced post Drew. I still think that DC is the better vocalist when you look at the season as a whole. Admittedly, he didn't prove that last
night. DA was in better form vocally, but I still prefer DC's versatility, edge and style.

Dc vs DA | ||

Thanks Drew!
As far as last night goes - I actually thought they were hyping David A so much bc they wanted Cooks fans to get out the vote - My guess is that DC wins - actually - Either one deserves it - I mean - I couldnt do what they do! (I love that some people think that stuff is easy up there live in front of 7000 people!) - But my money is on COok tonight - I think AI overplayed DA and it backfired.... We'll see! |

Great post, Drew!
What disturbed me most about last night is how they made it a one-time thing. No mention from the judges of how this is arguably the best final 2 ever-the most anticipated final 2-how different these two are and how both shined in their own right. Archuleta was better vocally. However, matched with Cook's originality and risk taking, this is the closest match up ever since at least season 2. Now it's up to America to vote. Understanding that it is going to be close no matter what, that is how they should have left it for suspense. No-they didn't do that. They declared a winner. They basically thanked Cook for being so fun to watch and congratulated Archuleta for being the ultimate star. That's not how to do this show in a season like this. That's fine for last season where Blake had no chance. As I said, if Archuleta wins, Cook had no chance. If Cook wins, it negates everything the judges said and, while he had been pimped most weeks as the best, the judges screwed up on their overall assessment in this last week. Now, the only thing they can do to make it suspenseful is to praise Cook left and right tonight at the finale to make it look like some of what they said last night has been neutralized. Because, in the long run, Cook IS going to be more successful on the charts in the next year or two at least. The judges were way too brutally honest. That's great for a show like the Apprentice, but for a close match up in Idol, they really need to make it look closer than they perceive it to be, at least for suspense, ratings, and $$$ they make from calls. |

Cook was WAY better than Archuleta in every single round. Sure, Archie has some amazing vocals, but they don't beat Cook's!

Also, if I remember, the 'songwriter' song that Archie did was in 6/8 time. 6/8 time, by it's nature, has more 'emotion' built in versus a typical song in 4/4. Every Irish beer drinking song is written in 6/8 (or 3/4). The lyrics were lame, but the time signature alone was going to make that song more memorable than Cooks. But after listening to Cook's again, it almost could have been a bad late 80's Sammy Hagar era Van Halen song. More Random Musings: - I would love for the judges to get assfucked by tonite's vote. They, specifically Randy, crowned Archie last night and gave Cook the 'attaboy' speech. - Simon's 'you seemed nervous and tense at the top of the show' to Cook - are you fucking kidding me? Cook was cracking jokes, chillin'. Archie looked like a deer in headlights. Sure, he's a 17 year old kid singing in front of 50 bajillion people so he gets some cover for that, but he has always looked nervous - every show, every performance. I don't buy it. You're a fucking pageant kid - you've been pimping this shit since birth on various TV shows/etc. - Cook was happy because he knows that, regardless of the outcome, he'll sell more records that Archie. Oh and that he's no longer a bartender from Tulsa, but a puss magnet. |

Excellent Excellent post Drew. I wholeheartedly concur.
An interesting take from a friend of mine who thought Cook should win just based on what they did with the bad songwriters song. She said even though the song was horrifying at best, he still was able to make it sound like something you'd hear on the radio right now. Where as Porkchop just turned out another ballad in his same style. The exact same thing he's been doing all season. She said for Cook showing his versatilty in turning crap into potential gold, he should win. |

Am I crazy (and maybe someone posted this already) but didn't Archie change the last lyrics to Imagine from "I hope someday you'll join us, and
the world will live as one" to "take my hand and join us, and the world will live as one" and did he do this the first time he sang the song.
If he did change these lyrics, wtf, how dare he and how come no one said anything about it since lyrically it is one of the best written songs ever and you
would think the judges would stop kissing his butt and at least criticize that! Please confirm or deny.

Love the post, Drew, but I disagree that Archie is a better vocalist. In my opinion, Cook has the ability to make every song his own (/Paula) while Archuleta
sometimes has good vocals, but to me his are never memorable, and they often sound the exact same. I love what Cook's been able to do with every song, and
even in the Studio Versions, Archie's are all the same, as Cook's seem so unique!
Are they doing Studio Versions for all three songs from last night? I'd hate it if they only did the songwriter ones. I will say that I'm glad Archie did Imagine because I'm looking forward to his Studio Version although I absolutely despised his live one. |

Awesome write-up Drew. Your points are well taken and accurate.
I too thought Archie's first song was awesome vocally. However, the song was done exactly like the original artist performed it. He does absolutely nothing to make the song his own, therefore the song is never memorable. This is something that the judges in previous seasons attacked the performers for doing. They hounded them for consistently singing the same type of songs each week and not pushing themselves vocally. Archie has done this the entire season. |

I only mean "better vocalist" in the most technical sense. I agree with everything you say about Cook's originality and versatility. He does absolutely nothing to make the song his own, therefore the song is never memorable. What he does do is to insert a lot of annoying, unnecessary runs to show off his voice. He rarely does anything to actually make the song better... |

I thought it was funny how Cookie gave up on the competition. Didn't Bo do the same? Really does not want to win.

Who's saying he gave up? He looked exhausted. He was crying after the last song. Does that sound like somebody who doesnt care? He's an emotional
wreck.

His "the competition's over, we're just having fun" comment. The boring performances. Chosing that drab Collective Soul song. Perhaps
that's why he was crying. That song just sucked so bad.
