Simon isn't picking Archie for the win. See Ellen/Leno. He's picking Cook cause he's a bartender.

I'm pretty sure Cook's former job isn't the only reason Simon thinks he should win. I think he was just making a point about Archuleta being a
trained pageant bot and Cook being a regular joe.

Ding, ding, ding!
exactly SHC (what do people call you for short?) |

Yes, SHC. Simon was basically referring to the fact that Cook has been out there, working in bars and clubs, playing when he can, etc. He's done his
time, and now it's his turn to get a break.

I'm not saying I disagree with the notion that it's good for a winner to have experience, have struggled to make it, etc, but if you're going to
use that as a reason someone should win (if you're a judge on the show), raise the age limit to only include those people. Most 16-18 year olds probably
don't have that type of experience.

Cooks "fans" are reality show watchers, who are going to quickly forget him after this is all over. Archuleta's fans are the same kind of die-hard breed that Clay Aiken had that continue to support him long after the reality show nonsense fades away. I'm a cook fan and trust me when I tell you I don't forget my true favorites. DC has captured my attention on the same level as Kelly Clarkson did in season 1 and I think pretty much everyone can attest to my fantardedness when it comes to Kelly no offense to Clay or his fans but take a gander at these numbers
Clay's fanbase, while still pretty rabid in their support, has shrunk significantly since his days on Idol. Archie, if he wins will most likely be the least successful winner and could spell the death of this show. |

Simon was very frank in the interview. I was surprised by his comments about Archuleta's dad...and about how he thought Archuleta is "trained"
and not good in interviews.
Just sorry that the part after the break was not on there...What was the fascinating thing about Simon that we don't know? Guess I'll have to search YouTube. |

Clay's fanbase, while still pretty rabid in their support, has shrunk significantly since his days on Idol.I can't believe the difference between the peak period of AI Claymates and where Clay is now. He turned into nothing, a flash in the pan. And while Ruben was really not worthy of winning, I really don't think it mattered in the long run. I would expect that Archie would do about the same as Clay. And what's going to happen when his voice changes? |

Thanks for posting that Simon interview... I agree with him.. I feel for that kid. Last night I thought they were going to have to medicate him.. he seem
RELIEVED as if Daddy Dearest wouldn't beat him with the wire hanger that night for performing badly. The kid has the appeal of a Partridge Family/David
Cassidy/Boy Band member who will be on the circuit of state fairs, hotel gigs in a few years and of course a washed up drunk druggie with a reality show after
that.
But Cook made such poor song choices and they were done so well average that this kidlet has it in the bag.. but having a rabid fan base and winning idol I doubt in his case will mean record sales as we have seen that time and time again... there is an "instant" push but no long term career averages other than Carrie Underwood who really found a niche market and Kelly who is struggling but still has great great potential for a long career. |

Man, I liked him in this interview. His description of Archie was spot on.
