The people I make fun of are the Kool-Aid drinking fans that do things like this: 1. Say they're "ok"with some particular plot development as if the writers and producers really care. 2. Talk about the characters using the name of the actor who plays the character. Usually people do this because they have dreams of being a Hollywood insider (or want us to think they are), when in actuality that just pulled up IMDB like everyone else. 3. Talk about how well-acted some particular scene is. This is a television comedy, not an Oscar nominee. 4. Act like you don't read my posts because they're sooooo boring, when obviously you do because you're still bitching about why I watch the show when I hate it. 5. Think it's hilarious that Dwight though the Ben Franklin reinactor might be the real Ben Franklins!!!! Or think the ferris wheel was a hilarious touch. Or loved the episode when Michael tried to fake a suicide by jumping off the building onto a bounce house. Or thought the "Prison Mike" episode was "brilliant" because Steve did a great acting job!!!! Hope this helps. Also, to Kitty: wish I'd seen Gervais on SNL. Have to agree that the UK version is much superior, but I wonder if Gervais might have sabotaged the US version. Didn't he and Merchant write the Prison Mike episode?

While I still like the show a lot, I do not think it is prefect or brilliant. I'm not sure anyone here really believes that. There are moments of brilliance, but I don't think I would ever called the show "perfect." Not even season two. Just a note...I don't think there is anything wrong with the second thing you mentioned. The show has been on for four years. It is safe to assume that the actors are recognizable enough that people know their names. Steve Carell, Rainn Wilson, Jenna Fischer, John Krasinski. Big woop. Didn't need imdb for that. And I don't see anything wrong complimenting an actor for a job well done. They aren't acting for an Oscar, but a lot of the actors in the cast were nominated for Emmys, so there are folks in the industry who think they are doing a good job. I don't think anything you mentioned in your last point were funny scenes/moments either. I don't think it is wrong if people did find those those things funny though. If that makes them laugh then I'm not going to be the one to judge.

I don't mind people being critical about the show, that is what this message board is all about. One of the reasons I like sucks so much is because this site is very critical and isn't like other sites that tend to candy coat things and put a blind eye when things aren't going very good. Plus people can have a lot of different opinions on the same episode, which is, I think the most interesting part. Seeing how someone loved something, and someone else thought it was shit. I'm actually more interested in the people who do criticize the show it brings a lot more substance to this thread then "I loved it. Rainn Wilson was on it tonight! Great episode." That being said I also appreciate it when people actually do use the actors name, even if they do just go to look it up on IMDB. I generally don't see that as people trying to impress but trying to not sound like an idiot. To be like "I hate that Michael did that with his eyes" or "Jim acted really well with Pam. I wish I could meet them." would drive me crazy because those are the characters names. I also know this isn't oscar worthy stuff, but some of these people are talented at what they do and some of the scenes are well acted (not a lot of them but their is from time to time a really good scene worth mentioning). Other then that I agree with your other complaints on some of the people on the board or people who talk about developments and pretend that it doesn't hurt the show, and all of the scenes you mentioned were cringe worthy and slightly appalling based on how unrealistic they were. I also agree that you can criticize a show and still be a fan of it, which is what a ton of people miss out on basically the main point of this entire message board. The whole "if you hate is so much why do you watch it?" crap that people throw at the more critical views on this board really do miss the point.

I think it's one of two things. Either Phyllis is, by far, the better party planner and gets way way more bang for a buck than Angela ever could (and who would be surprised with that, really?) or Phyllis told Bob Vance, Vance Refridgeration, that she was gonna shell out some personal dough to make sure that this was the best party ever and rub Angela's nose in it. She had the cash to give to Kevin to go get more bbq sauce and he bought a cartload of food. Angela is always whining about not having enough money to throw Michael's parties and Phyllis has always been the party planning committee lackey. Either of these storylines totally make sense to me. I still have this episode on the DVR and can't remember Stanley getting drunk and gettin' down so I'll have to go back and re-watch just for that. I had the same thoughts about Pam and Jim in New York, with her at design school and him in Ryan's job. And I'd really hope that they delve further into Ryan's demise at the beginning of next season. While it was satisfying to see the 'lil squirt arrested, it wasn't satisfying enough. Kevin cracks me up every episode and this one was real "special." Come on, doesn't everyone know of someone who is very smart in some areas of their life and really stupid in others? That's Dwight. It's possible. Those people exist. Get over it. Michael and Jan. Yikes. Michael's got some misplaced sense of duty, obviously and Jan's a user, obviously, so that'll get played out. I do like the new HR girl, but is she for real? Or just a more adept suck up than either Dwight or Andy? I loved this episode. They'd better not string everyone along for too much longer with the Jam engagement though. Some people are already not caring.

I do agree that those scenes mentioned aren't the best of the show. But the "if you hate it so much why do you watch it?" argument is almost as bad as calling people out for drinking the "Kool-Aid" for liking aspects of an episode, etc. I'm fine if someone wants to challenge something positive I have stated in the past regarding this episode. I hated Jan being pregnant because that was completely unnecessary and Andy proposing to Angela was contrived, but I thought the rest of the episode as a whole was pretty great.

I also agree that "The Office" UK is a thousand times better than the US version, but I watch this show so I can enjoy the characters and the storyline, not to break it down into things I dislike about the show. (Although I'm pretty soon going to have to do that since I'm going to be a TV critic for our school newspaper next year). In regards also to talking about the people on their show with their real names, that's something I usually do, since I identify more with who played each character and not who the actual character was. If for example, my brother and I watch "Juno," my brother will say "Look, that's Dwight!" in reference to the gas station attendant, while I will say "Look, that's Rainn Wilson!" Maybe I'm just a nerd like that for remembering practically everysingle cast member, but that's how my brain functions. And yes, Phyllis "rocks over Angela," Prince. However, she doesn't compare to Creed, who I find so out-there he's funny. He might not be realistic, which seems to be the chief complaint of people on these boards, but that's why I like him. He's different than any other old character you would find on a sitcom, and I like that it's not the stereotypical young actors.

Whether you want to call Jim "Jim" or "John K" or "Krasinski" - it shouldn't matter. They are all correct and if Pizza Harold needs IMDB to know the name of an actor on a TV show or thinks that a person believes they are a Hollywood insider because they know an actor's name - he's the one with the issue, not you Timmy. Seriously, what actor wants to be anonymous? They pay their publicists lots of money so we'll know their names. If Steve Carell wins an emmy award it isn't as "Michael Scott". sheesh.

Just because some people don't dissect every aspect of a TV show doesn't mean they're fantards. I myself simply prefer to focus on the stuff I did like instead of dwelling on the negative. I didn't like the Ben Franklin plot or Prison Mike but there's plenty I did love. Sue me for not being miserable.

There are some criticisms about the show that I've personally posted and genuinely feel are warranted - admittedly small things that are still detrimental to my enjoyment of the show - only to have someone dismiss it as over analyzation or condescendingly remind me "it's just a tv show." This bothers me because if we can't dissect and analyze a tv show HERE, then what's the point of the forum? If I had some lifeline directly to the show, I'd probably take my complaints there, but as it is.... even Jenna Fischer doesn't answer fan questions anymore on her myspace, like she used to. I guess starring in all those horrible movies is taking up too much time.

I mean, its funny that you find fault with the people who act like the producers/actors think what they care when you, in fact, drone on in here as if any of us actually care what you think. Oh, and for the most part I do usually skip over your posts mainly because their all whining about the same thing and for someone who said they were gonna watch the show "whenver I get around to it" you seem to be in here every Thursday night with a 500 (at least) word analysis of the episode.

Watching them the last 2 weeks on Sunday night, I was rolling with laughter. This show grows on me with repeated viewings, when I'm not so concerned about where the storyline is going, and I can just enjoy the characters. One of my favorite scenes: When they had the website launch party and Phyllis had some internet printouts on how to deal with difficult people, and she tried them on Angela. She got spoons instead of mixed cutlery, so Angela chews her ass out, and Phyllis asks her to speak her frustration in a nicer way. Angela slowly, and with a sugary sweet voice, explains why Phyllis is so stupid. I really love Angela! And Phyllis.
