SEASON 1

I happened to catch the first episode of Survivor and was intrigued. I soon found my way to Sucks. The message board there is part of Planet Sucks, not this one, and used dcscripts (and still does). I registered a new username. I just tried logging in (right now) after years of dormancy and amazingly the account (tim) is still there, and even more bizarre I remembered my password, only after staring at the keyboard and flashing back. Anyway, registration there was soon closed. This made the spoiling better.

Some time during that season I created the hokey website RudyReigns, which sort of made fun of Rudy as a caricature, and simultaneously made fun of the people who didn't like him. I didn't have any spoilers that season but I tried. Just reported others mostly. It was pretty gay. But I started posting news and summarizing everything that was out there the best I could.

At some point Peter Lance, who was writing a book about winner Richard Hatch after initially planning to write a book for him but got burned, got in contact with me. I was allowed to break the news first of his book release. After the season ended he developed a source close to the production of Survivor. He wouldn't spoil the course of play but got the contestant names pretty easily. I was given the job of research their backgrounds to find more out about them, and then release the news. So in preparation for all this, I registered survivornews.net.

I told 3 other people about some of the names to help me research. Meanwhile Dogstalker was discovering some of the names and releasing them slowly one by one. Around the time we were about to release all the names, Dogstalker did it right before us. Same names and similar research. Peter attacked Dogstalker in a USA Today article calling him the Grinch who stole credit. Dogstalker was upset and sent me an e-mail saying he didn't. I was trying to stay out of it because I didn't know for sure. That was that. Looking back I am pretty sure someone who I confided in turned around and told him this info as they learned it, but Dogstalker didn't actually know that. I could be wrong.

The jealousy, treachery and backbiting was only getting started on both the show and among this online community I got involved in.

What is the significant of May 19? May 19 was the date of the Survivor Marquesas finale and is also the birthday of Darrah Johnson. Well, that's just coincidence. Or maybe not.
