Archretard winning would be just like Clay winning, if Clay had been on the show when he was 17, had even less ability to sing uptempo songs than he actually
has, and had an IQ about 50 points lower. Not my idea of good.

Clay sings uptempo quite well in concert, tyvm. And there are a couple on his new album that are great. : ))

I've thought about the similarities to season 2 for a while. You can extend it to 4th place, as well. I expected Jason to be Josh Gracin this year. Even if
he had sung flawlessly on his last week, it was in the cards. Josh and Jason were the last good looking male. They both chose questionable songs or gave weak
performances including while they were sick, and got bashed heavily, after being loved by the judges originally.
Impossible for either one to make the sacred final 3 because they were not as "seriously talented" or as heavily pimped. Jason and Josh Gracin had the same vibe to them - the cute different one, with a niche fan base, but the majority already had chosen Clay or Ruben (David or David). One a Marine, one a hippie - both kind of struggled to produce the judges' preferred pop sound. No chance. The 3rd place would always have to be one of the R&B divas...for the sake of the demographics. So predictable! |

Both sang ballads the same way every week. The cheeseburger reach outs, the scratchy voices, the inability to sing an uptempo number, the staying in one spot on the stage, the over pimping and complete lack of criticism. I can imagine Archie singing every one of Ruben's songs and vice versa, but there's no way that Archie or Ruben could pull off the songs that Clay sang. Maybe Cook could, he has a better range and more versatility than Archie, but even Cookie would struggle. |

The male/female boots this year matched the 2nd season's almost exactly. Males got booted this year in 12th and 10th, instead of 11th and 9th--otherwise
identical. Both were "male dominated" seasons that actually had 4 women and 3 men left in the top 7, followed by 3 female boots in a row. And of
course Archuleta is kind of a younger, less versatile Clay (I don't doubt Claymazement's statement that Clay sings uptempo fine in concert. I was being
too snide. But Clay's CDs are pretty listless compared with the Clay we saw on the show).
Having said all this, I don't think this season feels much like the 2nd season at all. It reminds me much more of the 4th. Both seasons saw Idol trying to bounce back after disasters by making changes to the format. The 4th season's makeover (raising the age limit, completely revamping the semis) worked; it remains to be seen if this year's changes (changing the Hollywood rounds to keep any Sanjayas from slipping through, allowing instruments) will. Ratings have dropped for the second year in a row, but at least they got a fairly good group of singers. Time will tell. |

But Clay's CDs are pretty listless compared with the Clay we saw on the showTake it back! Clay is so much more versatile and engaging now than he was then. His latest CD is anything but listless. There are some ballads on there of course because he does them so well but there are also radio friendly uptempo songs. I hate it when I see this sort of comment because its just not true. |

Just wanted to add one more point in favor of the redux, with the recycling of the boxing metaphors. They tried awful hard to recapture the magic of S2, and
succeeded somewhat, for sure. But I hate it that they can't come up with something fresh and new instead of recusing the same lame themes.
