Ooh, and we still take the Holy Land, but we make it a neutral site for everyone, overseen by the UN. That would have been marginally doable sixty years ago.
And don't give the Jews their own country, but just invite them over here, and it would have been yet another gigantic immigration to make America even
more diverse.

If they ever were overrun by Arabs (I laugh at the thought of what century/millenium they would be militarily capable) I am sure they would almost all move to
America... which if past experience holds, they are going to be FAR more powerful in the US, than in Israel.

And don't give the Jews their own country, but just invite them over here, Do you mean to tell me, Katie Scarlett O'Hara, that Tara, that land doesn't mean anything to you? Why, land is the only thing in the world worth workin' for, worth fightin' for, worth dyin' for, because it's the only thing that lasts. |

It was the British who were the protectoriate of the Palestine region after WWI that promised the Jews their homeland there. But they didn't seem to bother
dealing with the Arabs.

There are proposals to turn the former mandate into one, multiethnic state which wouldn't necessitate any migration. Not saying it'd work, but just
throwing it out there.

When I first heard about it either in JR High or High school, I was really horrified. I remember asking my mom why didn't they do someothing about it at
the time. She was 18 when pearl harbor was bombed and in college. She said they didn't know, not the general public. So if the gubmint knew, it wasn't
common knowledge about the extermination camps among the regular folks. So because the folks didn't know, there wasn't a groundswell of calls for the
US Government to try to get to the camps sooner to liberate them. At least not by her recollection. I don't feel guilt about it, as I had nothing to do
about it, but am very concerned about the stalemate over there. I don't think there are any easy answers. What we need to do here, though is to stop
funding terror through our petro dollars We need to find alternate sources here (yes, drill in anwar, drill off the coasts of FL and CA) and build more
refineries. We also need to develop alternatives to petroleum for energy without killing the economy, again no easy answers.

If you can spend 520+ billion on the Iraq war imagine what an anglo/american/select Euro technology project with 250 billion could do. The patents and technology owned by the member nations. Have the military and intelligence agencies provide security, build research labs at every major college in the Western World fund it like no other project. It would make the Hugo Chavez's and OPEC irrelevent.

Baby Boomer But this is a stupid question as Israel and most of the events leading up to recognizing it as a country occured in the 1940s when most of us were babes in arms or not even conceived yet. We're more likely to remember the 6 day war and most of us supported Israel then. The media was overwhelmingly pro Israel and portrayed it as a tiny beleagured country trying to prevent itself from being wiped off the face of the earth. Exodus, the movie, came out in 1960 and was as big as Titanic was in its day. And giving the Jews land elsewhere would not have worked - this was their holy land as well as that of christians and muslims. |

God gave the Jews the promise land of Israel. Read your Moses.

I know you're joking, but the assertion that Moses wrote the Pentateuch is particularly amusing to me considering there are portions describing his death.

Surely you understand that if he could part the sea, he could easliy describe his death.
