I see that he thinks about and puts effort in controlling how he comes off. Not that its fake. Just an obvious regard. He's that intelligent and that charismatic. I have never once got the feeling that when the camera turns away, his smile vanishes and he starts demanding things for his highness.
After that, David Cook changed his behavior on the show. He became quieter and didn't talk much.
I have a feeling that someone (maybe his buddy, Michael Johns?) told him to be careful about how he acted on camera if he wants to win votes and become popular.
Anyways, someone went to a show taping and he said that when the Idols were on stage, getting ready to start the show, David Cook turned his back against the fans (he didn't interact with the fans).
He only acknowledged the fans after he performed his song.
