So you're cool with unelected government officials deciding issues for you?

Hi merkyl, not sure if you meant that for me. No I'm not always comfortable with unelected government officials deciding issues, especially when they are
on things like park boards, transporation boards, etc. Less so when they are in the judiciary, but I'm sure I would find instances where it would make me
cringe.
All I was pointing out is that if it were left to the people (particularly only the people with the power), those things I mentioned would not have occurred as early as they have, or at all. On this issue, honest to God, how is allowing 2 people somewhere to get married going to impact anyone else's marriage? We know "separate but equal" isn't equal. I am all for a particular church or denomination saying "not in our church", but as long as any 2 breeders can go to a courthouse and get married, why can't 2 'mos? |

God is watching and we are doomed.
Calif slides into Hell as a warning to the rest of US. But more Dems will hasten our demise. . |

Gay people demanded civil unions because of the benefits. When they got that they demanded gay marriage. It's the whole "give them an inch and
they'll take a mile".

The government should stay the fuck out of marriage completely. Actually, I'd like to see marriage abolished. Then I wouldn't have to waste my entire
day at some wedding I don't want to attend and I would save some cash too. Why the fuck do I have to witness you and your significant other say how much
you love each other? And then give you a gift like you've accomplished something special!

You bigots understand that the USA was an apartheid country until the mid 1960's? That the tyranny of the majority denied rights to minorities for all
those previous years? That those damned activist judges started pecking away at it? That part of the system of checks and balances is to prevent tyrannies of
the majority?

So you're cool with it, as long as it's what you believe in. Got it.

It's still not a real marrage but at least they get the tax break now and can feel a little more normal. Too bad it's such a Hollow victory.

We can't allow this to happen! Now terrorists will want to come to America to get married. |

on a side note... I've always found it odd when straight folk even have an opinion on the topic, like it's any of their business anyway.Interesting. |

Of course, that position means that you have to ignore other laws also passed by the voters that say all people will be treated equally. Republicans are confortable with hypocracy. |

"Sure the will of the people can be unenlightened but right or wrong a voter approved law should always be the highest law. "
We already have that - the Constitution is the highest voter-approved law there is. The justices are simply looking at what the people already agreed they wanted (in this case, equal protection under the law) and are making sure no "unenlightened" folks mess with it. That, by the way, is the function of the unelected judiciary. It was also the will of the people that they be unelected and that they have this function. |
