I just saw the pre-cast 1st promo for the new season during Top Chef tonight. It showed the 4 previous winners in silhouette against the PR
screen that the models emerge from, with a little quote from each. At the end, the screen says "New Season of Fabulousness This July".

It wasn't open yet in Kara Saun's season.

I think I like tihs, if it's at all true:
Project Runway: All-Stars in the WorksLOL at them mixing up the winner and runner-up on S2. And could they not get anyone from the last 2 seasons to sign up yet? (edit to add, I can't get it to bold stuff that's from the original article. I wanted to bold the parts where it said that Santino won, and Chloe was a runner-up...) |

OMG if All Stars happens that means we are one step closer to PR: Fans vs Favorites !!
I don't have a good feeling about the move to Lifetime...has a reality show ever changed producers like this before? The only one I can think of is Big Brother, but the only reason that happened was b/c the original version needed a major overhaul. Lifetime is not owned by CBS, right? Grodner would probably be chomping at the bit to sink her jowls into this show, perish the thought. |

Also, Janelle would model ALL the clothes because that fame whore doesn't have anything else to do. |

A truncated all-stars would be fun, as it obviously wouldnt be taken seriously. But I hope its not just all high placing people, gotta mix in some entertaining
people as well.

OFF THE 'RUNWAY'CONTESTANT WHO LEFT FOR HEALTH REASONS WON'T RETURNBy DEBORAH STARR SEIBELMay 18, 2008 -- Season five of "Project Runway" - coming in July - will be its last on the New York catwalks before the show gets an overhaul by changing networks (Bravo to Lifetime) and locale (New York to Los Angeles). And what will make this last season even more bittersweet is that the one contestant everyone hoped would return - Jack Mackenroth - won't be on board. The Harlem-based designer had to exit the "Runway" early last season due to a potentially deadly staph infection. "Bravo said, 'You certainly can audition again, but there are no promises,'" says Mackenroth, 39, who was hospitalized for five days after leaving in the middle of the fifth challenge. "To re-audition, I couldn't have brought the same [clothes]. I would've had to make new pieces, which is a huge investment in time and money. In the end, I decided I just couldn't give up another year of my life."Bravo hasn't released the names of the new designers, which begins filming in June. But Mackenroth's absence will probably be a big disappointment for passionate "Runway" fans. His story has to be one of the most poignant in the show's history: After showing great promise by winning the menswear design challenge, Mackenroth entered the sewing room with Tim Gunn and announced that he had a MRSA infection in his nose and would have to quit. "It was just so scary," says another season four contestant, Mackenroth's friend Kit Pistol, recalling his sudden illness. Mackenroth was recently in Los Angeles visiting Pistol, who is the stylist for "Dancing With The Stars" co-host Samantha Harris. "You're in this crazy world where you don't have your cell phone to call home," says Pistol. "You don't have your family or close friends and you're not feeling well. And there's all this pressure. I know Jack had auditioned [for] season three and then to be accepted [for] season four and not make it through due to health reasons was just crushing." But Mackenroth, who is HIV positive, knew he couldn't take chances. He says, "I'd had this once before, in my leg, and it's really resistant to antibiotics," adding that a staph infection is something anyone can get and has no relation to HIV. "The larger issue," says Mackenroth, "is that it's a really contagious bacteria. The producers were trying to make it work. They were going to have a special sewing machine that only I would use. But I was like, 'Am I going to be selfish and just hope that no one else will get this?'" So he decided to put his scissors down. "I remember we were standing by the elevators, just before we went in, and Tim was trying to comfort me because I was crying," says Mackenroth. "And he said, 'Listen, you're very talented. Everything happens for a reason.' And at the time I thought, 'That's a load of crap.' Because at that moment, it didn't feel that way. But things do happen for a reason. There was an outpouring of support. And a lot of opportunities have come my way." Mackenroth has a cameo in the new "Sex & The City" movie. He's designing a red carpet dress for Heather Tom, a cast member of the soap "The Bold and the Beautiful." And he's up for a job with a booming, Tokyo-based, Gap-like company called Uniqlo. "The show was amazing for me," he says. "For one thing, people answer my phone calls." |

Sunday, April 06, 2008Project Runway Auditions in NY and Interview with Jack Mackenroth
BPR's intrepid NYC correspondent Nancy T checks in from the Project Runway Season 5 auditions where she runs into an old friend:
Dateline: Saturday, April 5. There was a line around the block at the Times Square Starbucks. New flavor of Frappacino? Not quite. Instead,
about 60 people were waiting to get into the W Hotel for their Project Runway interviews. Along with their portfolios, dress racks, and mannequins,
they brought their friends and well-wishers. This group consisted mainly of talented amateurs, rather than the more experienced participants of Season
4.
But, there was one familiar face in the crowd. We caught Jack Mackenroth surveying the incoming talent at the Saturday auditions. Eying his competition perhaps? If so, he's the most gracious (and buff) competitor we've seen in a while. He was wishing everyone good luck, posing for pictures, and giving helpful audition advice to nervous designers. When asked if he was planning on coming back for Season Five, he said "Well, Heidi asked the same question on the reunion show. Since then, I've come to realize how important it is for me to finish what I started. It was so amazing the first time around. So, I've expressed my interest in coming back. I'm really excited about the possibility, and just have my fingers crossed for it to all work out again."
I also asked him if he thought there was validity in Tim's opinion that the stress of the show brought on the staph
infection. He answered," No I don't. A staph infection can happen to anyone. I am one of the healthiest people I know. The chances of a
similar scenario are infinitesimal. Since then I have been tested for that particular bacteria and I'm all clear. It shouldn't be an
issue."
On a more personal note, Jack has been quite busy since the show. He's in consideration for a top position at Uniqlo, and has
continued his designing. In addition, he will be in a future "Law and Order" - as the corpse! And, while he is no longer an item with
Dale Levitski of Top Chef, they are still close friends.
So, Season 5 is already shaping up to be interesting. And, I for one hope Jack is part of it.

I am one of the healthiest people I know.... all his friends have chronic incurable diseases? ok, does it piss anyone else off when hiv+ people say this. it gives off the totally wrong message. |

I vehemently oppose his coming back! Aside from the fact that I don't care for him as a reality TV personality (i.e. famewhore), I thought his designs
SUCKED! Particularly the horrible menswear look he won with. Ewwww!

At first I thought he was hot, but that didn't last long.
I don't care one way or the other if he returns. I don't think I would even notice if he wasn't cast. I think it gives him an unfair advantage if he does get cast, having been through the process for part of one season. |

The only people I simply could not stomach on my TV again would be Daniel V and Kayne, I loathe them.
The only ones I must have are Wendy, Angela and Elisa. The ones I desperately would want back on my TV but know would never be there are Diana and Bradley. |

Understandable. You're looking for the freak-show element. A show with Wendy, Angela, Elisa, Diana and Bradley WOULD be entertaining, regardless of how shitty the clothes would be... |

The "don't interview me for the cameras, Wendy" scene is one of my favo reality tv moments <3 |
