The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face by Roberta Flack (Simon) Of course, we who are spoiled know whose cover this will probably sound like. Actually, the first two lines sound like a male Roberta Flack, some timbre, same pace, although rather pitchy. Now he moves up into his comfort range, and takes liberties with the melody. The stunning second half leaves the mediocre first half in the dust. I wouldn't have been surprised, had he sung this in the finale, that he would have received a "you just won this competition" from Simon. On balance, I can't quite give it an 8, so it'll have to be another 7. Randy: Check it out. I've been a Cook fan since Day one. You can sing the phone book, too. Loved the high note at the end. Wish Simon had chosen something less predictable than this old song. Audience and Simon: BOO! Paula: It's not about the 2 of them. It's about you, David. Now you're the second favorite person who sings this song. Simon: Well, this may sound biased, but I thought it was one of your best performances to date. I thought you were, this is what makes you brilliant, because you take risks. Round One to Cook and Cowell. |

I bet that microphone needs a hot shower after David's hot breath all up on it.
I don't like the judges picking the songs because it always is a "judges" battle and not about the contestant. |

How is Cook original for turning Simon's song choice into another screamy, droning rock ballad? He does this every week.
Simon wants him to win, fine, but he's not original. He's as derivative as anyone else up there. |

That was pretty good given the song he got. That's a beautiful song but the original is one of my faves.

I do not think this was a good song choice for Cook. He showed a LOT of vocal strain on it. However, he's the only one of the three who sounds like a
contemporary artist. Archie is a perfect little manniquin and Syesha just bores me. Funny - David Cook is technically the least perfect of the three, but
he's the most real.

Oh, this show is far more about the judges than it is about the contestants. That was really obvious during Paulagate.
I miss Carly. I really thought she'd still be here at this stage of the competitionIt would be better if she were here, but I knew she wasn't going to get to the end when she hit the bottom three at F11. She was too pimped to go down that early and be a longterm contender. |

I wonder who was behind having Cookie's Moms stand during that song. She looked a bit uncomfortable, but still so proud of her bebe. Unfortunately,
it's gonna to come across as manipulative (not to mention, corny) to some viewers (like me).
