I know this isn't a good number to produce a good sample, but (becuase I'm bored and I'll be up all night writing a paper that due tomorrow),
I've decided to see how the first eight people to rank the 16 seasons in this thread add up. I just gave each season one point for whatever rank they were
(example: JLK Name ranked Cook Islands 6th, so Cook Islands got 6 points). So, the season with the least points would be the "best" season according
to the average of the first eight rankers.
1) Borneo: 26 Points -Highest Rank: 1 -Lowest Rank: 7 Note: The original usually ranks in the top 4/5 of most people's list so this makes sense. 2) Micronesia: 30 points -Highest Rank: 2 -Lowest Rank: 6 Note: I'm assuming becuase it's fresh in people's minds that it ranked this high, but I guess we will see 3) Australian Outback: 33 -Highest Rank: 1 -Lowest Rank: 15 Note: This one suffered a lot because of one '15' ranking. I think if more people rate, it could easily become number one. It was by far the most watched. 4) China: 46 -Highest Rank: 3 -Lowest Rank: 12 Note: China usually ranks anywhere in the 3-7 range, so it makes sense for it to be this high. 5) Pearl Islands: 53 -Highest Rank: 1 -Lowest Rank: 16 Note: This was a shock to me. I think most people agree that most people think PI was the best season, if that makes sense. But again, I feel if more people ranked, it would move up towards the 1 or 2 spot. The only season to receive a "best" rank and a "worst" rank. 6) Marquesas: 60 -Highest Rank: 3 -Lowest Rank: 11 Note: I usually see Marquesas around the 6 spot in most lists so I doubt it will move much if others ranked it. TIE 7) Amazon: 63 -Highest Rank: 2 -Lowest Rank: 15 Note: Seems about right. To me anyways. 7) Palau: 63 -Highest Rank: 3 -Lowest Rank: 12 Note: I think Palau us a below average season, but I would have guessed most people would put it near the middle. 9) Africa: 72 -Highest Rank: 1 -Lowest Rank: 15 Note: This one suprised me becuase I was sure it would be near the bottom. It may have been the '1' ranking that boosted it, but most of the ratings weren't too bad for Africa. 10) Vanuatu: 75 -Highest Rank: 4 -Lowest Rank: 11 Note: I remember a couple a seasons ago a lot of people had Vanuatu as their last rank or close to it. I guessed it has climbed the ladder in a sense. 11) Exile Island: 82 -Highest Rank: 5 -Lowest Rank: 14 Note: Hmmm. I thought this would end up around the middle, I guess I'm biased though. 12) Cook Islands: 83 -Highest Rank: 5 -Lowest Rank: 15 Note: Almost at a tie with Exile Island. Not a suprise that it landed at 12. 13) Guatemala: 93 -Highest Rank: 1 (my vote!) -Lowest Rank: 14 -Note: I knew I was the only one who would rank it number 1, but I had no idea no one really liked it. Poor Guatemala, I thought it was way better than 13. 14) All-Stars: 105 -Highest Rank: 8 -Lowest Rank: 15 -Note: The last three are only separated by 5 points and I think it is safe to say they are the consensus worst three seasons (or at leasts that my observations) 15) Fiji: 108 -Highest Rank: 11 -Lowest Rank: 16 -Note: I think the 'Have vs. Have Nots' twist will forever but this season towards the bottom. I know there are some Fiji lovers out there, but they are obvioulsy not one of the eight rankers so far. 16) Thailand: 110 -Highest Rank: 9 -Lowest Rank: 16 -Note: This season continues to be at the bottom of most peoples list. No shocker here. Obviously I could have added wrong or whatever but I don't think I did. I hope someone gets something out of this. I found it interesting--especially the hate for my favorite season.

1. Marquesas - stunning location, powershift, well rounded
2. China - almost returning to basics 16 players, satisfying winner 3. Micronesia - so many blindsides, favorites 4. Palau - Tom dominating, so many firsts, I enjoyed seeing Ulong die 5. Guatemala - great characters, Danni winning 6. Pearl Islands - pirate theme, higher if the Outcast twist was not incorporated 7. Borneo 8. Cook Islands - characters (I'm Asian so, meh.) 9. Australia - early controversies and conflicts, flooding 10. Africa - first season to have watched 11. Panama - not too many players, good characters, Cirie 12. All-Stars - meh 13. Vanuatu - didn't like the winner and Twila 14. Amazon - murky environment, not so much development in Jenna's character 15. Thailand - rewatched it and was stagnant and predictable 16. Fiji - helicopter shots, have vs have-nots |

1. Borneo- The original has a certain charm that can never be broken. Great story, great characters, great location.
2. Australia - Great setting, great, classic characters. Real survival type feeling, which lacks in later seasons. 3 .Pearl Islands - Action packed with probably one of the best, if not the best, story. Lil <3 4. China- Throwback to the original. Great setting, great characters, great story. Courtney Yates = Colleen for a new generation. 5. Marquesas- Vecepia is one of my favorite winners. It used to be higher because of all the great strategic moves, but we have seen better as time has passed. Beautiful location. 6. Micronesia - Great strategic moves, average story, sucky location, good characters. 7. Vanuatu - I always thought Vanuatu was under rated. The season had a pretty good location, an awesome story, and a great set of characters. 8. Exile Island - Great concept, great characters, below average story. 9. All-Stars - There was so much excitement, and then halfway through, I realized something was wrong. All the good characters went early and the setting sucked. The story was pretty good, though. 10. Palau - Too many nobodies. Tom sucked major ass. War setting was below average. Story was horrible. Produced some good characters, though. 11. Guatemala - Below average story, nice location, some good characters, but mostly meh. 12. Amazon - Different setting, pretty good story, pretty bad characters. 13. Thailand - Location was okay. There was some story, and it was slightly entertaining. Would have been ranked number 1 if Jan had won. This could have been a truly eccentric season, but the predictable sociopath won instead, Oh well. 14. Africa - Pretty bland setting for Africa, little to no story, pretty meh characters. 15. Cook Islands - Horrible characters, horrible setting, horrible story. Everything was wrong. 16. Fiji - Worst season ever. Absolutely pitiful. No story. Bland setting. Good characters were tossed aside to boost visibility of CBS pimped heroes. The ONLY season where I missed an episode and didn't care. |
