New books smell like paper. Which is nice, but I like musty old tomes with teenage obscenities scribbled around the page containing works like "The Owl
and the Pussycat." They smell like the ages. That's just how I am.

I think it's the smell of ink and chemicals that I like. I spent much of my childhood sniffing markers....

The interior odor of a Ped Egg.
35mm film. Maggie -- she's never smelled bad in her entire life. Not even wet. Grandma's bread, which I'll never smell again because she's dead. Super-cold Popsicles. All except lime. The way a dude smells when he walks in from outdoors on a breezy day, with the combined odors of trees and leaves and grass and earth clinging to his skin -- works in warm and cold weather, but each smell is different. The smell of a dude's hands after he's been holding onto a steering wheel for a long time. We've discussed this before. Try it! Grammar school mimeograph ink, the purple one. Rain, but not the Korean guy. Mom's makeup drawer. Denim, leather, suede. New, or just slightly used. Freshly opened packages of electronic equipment. Ozone. |

I used to love the smell of my grandmother's lipstick- impossibly thick red makeup, the scent somehow both tropical and chemical in nature.
